Hi Don After 50 years (and many researchers before me ..grin) I pulled a deed of sale for Charles Barrier b c1725 d 1793 Rowan Co, NC. His wife Yunes (Eunice) signs. (Deed posted usgenweb Rowan Co) So although Johanna is named in his Will it appears his first wife was Eunice and the Mother of his children: 1) Rudolph Barrier b c1746 d after 1784 who marries Anna Catherina (Helmstetler by tradition ) b 1 Jan 1746 d 8 Sept 1814 2) Elizabeth Barrier b 1754 Va who marries Johan Jacob Shuitt b 12 Feb 1748 d 8 July 1821 3) Maria Barbara Barrier b c1756 d? who marries 28 Nov 1775 Jacob Hamm Jr, 4) George Barrier b 1759 d 1810 who marries Susanna Sauer b 27 Nov 1760 d 1825. Both buried Old Pilgrim Church Cem. Susannah's parents are Johan Phillip Sauer and Christena Faust/Foust. It is apparent from early deeds and marriage bonds that the family name is "Barrier". Later the names can be found on record as Berger, Barger and finally "Berrier". The Division of Estate for George Barrier shows all of George's children signing with an X except one. His son Phillip's name is spelled "Berrier" by the English clerk no doubt. Phillip's brother Henry Sr (the one hold out) actually signs his name "Barrier". This record is also on the usgenweb. So the family members staying in NC became "Berrier" while those who left like my Henry line (who could write)in 1870 still remained "Barrier". Hope that all makes sense. There are something like 800+ Barriers in Frances white pages today. So were french passing ourselves off as German..french huguenots no doubt. bye Stephanie FamilyHart@aol.com wrote: > > In a message dated 06/27/2000 10:15:53 PM Mountain Daylight Time, > info@conquestmusic.com writes: > > > Hi Don > > Hope you won't forget the Barrier changes that I submitted to you before > > if this info is going to > > be included in the database. > > Thanks > > Stephanie > > Stephanie, > > I hope that we have already made the changes.
