Hello Glass list members, I am researching the surname GLASSE. (sometimes spelled Glass, Glas) My ancestors came from Jamaica, West Indies, and some of their ancestors came originally from England. I am looking for any information on this surname in Jamaica from the mid-1600's to the present. From Jamaica, my relatives spread out to the US, Canada and England. These are the only names I have: John Alexander Glasse- he was listed on his son's birth certificate as being a "schoolmaster" in Jamaica in 1884-1887. (probably longer) John Cecil Glasse- son of John Alexander Glasse. His birth certificate says he was born in Clarendon parish, Milk River district, Kemps Hill. He married Mercedes (or Maresaide Benjamin Glasse) In 1914 Mercedes Glasse was living at 1c Arnold Rd., Kingston, Jamaica. Children: Carmen, Edna and Robert Glasse. Aubray Clive Glasse- son of John Alexander Glasse, also born in Clarendon parish. He married Hilda Glasse and was living in New York for awhile. Children: Carl, Gloria and Dorothy Glasse. Percival Glasse- son of John Alexander Glasse and listed on the 1921 Voters List in Jamaica as living in Love Lane in Kingston, Jamaica. Lived in New York also for awhile. Children: Dudley Glasse and others. Elpheda Glasse- birth register says she is the daughter of a John Glasse in Jamaica. (possibly the same John Alexander Glasse that I am researching.) Her mother's last name was Hey. Edward Glasse- listed in Port Royal in 1751. Was a church warden there. Possibly an English ancestor. Family from Wiltshire, England. Want any mention of him in Jamaica, especially want to know the names of his descendents. William Bulkeley Glasse- married Maryann Parmynter in the 1700's. Want any mention of him in Jamaica and also would like to know of any descendents in Jamaica. He is also from Wiltshire, England. Ralph Glasse- of Manchester or Portland. Ancestors or descendents in Jamaica ? Arthur Glasse- want any mention of him in Jamaica, especially want to know his descendents. Would like any information on the Mt. Hope School in Portland, Jamaica where a J.H. Glasse was a teacher and manager. Would appreciate any assistance with any of these names or any other Glasse members in Jamaica. Thank you in advance.
