Hello all from Ohio, USA The following is info I have on Levi (Levy) Glass The Elder. Hopefully, some of the info will be of help to someone, somewhere. Levi (Levy) Glass The Elder, born 1730/35 in Va., died 1779 in Bladen, N.C. Wife's first name was Mary, Mary's maiden last name unknown. Through 2 land deeds, (1757,1758), Levi is traceable to Northampton, VA.. Land deeds in 1764, and 1771 place him in Bladen, N.C. where his occupation was a Tavern keeper. Bladen County was formed in 1734 from New Hanover. Levi and Mary had following 7 children: (1) Solomon Glass born about 1760 and was disowned by Levi. Reason for disowning ? (2)Mary Glass born about 1762 (3)Littleton Glass born about 1767 died before 1793 in N.C. (4)LEVI GLASS, SR. born in N.C. about 1766 died after 1855 in Sumter, Ga. Fought in Rev. war; enlisted at Fayetteville 1781/82; discharged March/April 1783 in Charleston, S.C. (5)Thomas Glass born about 1768 in N.C. (6)Rit(t)a Glass born about 1770 (7)Rebecca Glass born about 1772 (4A)LEVI GLASS, SR. Wife's name was Mary, her maiden last name unknown. A letter dated April 19, 1851 (age 87) shows LEVI, SR. requesting Rev. war pension and living in Barbour County, Ala. A letter dated April 25, 1855, (age 91) shows Levi requesting bounty land for serving in Rev. war. Letter says he was living in Holmes County, Florida at that time. Witness to this letter was Wm. J. Glass, one of his sons. LEVI, SR. and wife mary had following children: (1)James Wesley Glass born 1797/98 in Ga. Died 1861. Married Sarah (Arline) Glass 1-14- 1821 (2)Rebecca Glass born 1798 in Ga. Only available record is census of 1860 (age 60) that shows her living in Santa Rosa County, Florida with her brother William Glass. (3) Thomas Glass born about 1800 in Ga. Thomas was a farmer by trade. Married Kitty (Fulford) Glass 7-13-1821. Married Mary (McCormick) Glass 9-26-1844. (4)LEVI GLASS, JR. born about 1804/05 in Ga. died after 1860. LEVI GLASS, JR. was a farmer. Married Sarah Sally (Martin) Glass 1-10-1820. Sarah Sally Martin was born about 1804, died after 1842 in Barbour Co., Ala. LEVI JR. married Elizabeth (Pynes) Glass in 3-3-1850. (5)Littleton D. Glass born about 1810 in Ga. Died before 1899 and was a farmer. Married Nancy (Young) Glass, date unknown. Nancy was born about 1805 in Ga., died 9-13-99. Census of 1870 shows Littleton and Nancy living in Barbour County, Ala. (6)William J. Glass born about 1815 in Ga. (4A)LEVI GLASS, JR. Also had son named Levi Jackson Glass, born 4-11-1826 in Ga. Died 7- 26-1914 in Lauderdale, Mississippi. Thats about all the info I have on Levi Glass, The Elder. Now a personal note. It was customary in earlier days of marriage to name the first born son after fathers father (infants grandfather), and firstborn daughter after wife's mother (infants grandmother). If this be the case of Levi The Elder, then Levi The Elders father should have been named Solomon Glass. Again, this is speculation on my part and cannot be proven.
