> >Here is a great website ....www.glorecords.blm.gov/..... It covers land patents issued in >several Eastern States back to 1820. I entered a last name GLASS search and found 77 >Patents in Alabama (Williamson and Zachariah Glass who were just mentioned on this >page were there), 24 in Ohio, 22 in Indiana, etc.. I clicked on a highlighted name and >the specifics of the patent, including the county appeared. Further down on that page >I printed off a copy of the actual patent that was clear enough to be framed! >Mike Cavenaugh Mike: This is very useful information Mike. I have found a few patents for relatives including Henry Clay Holloway (who married Georgie Glass) but they are in no way "suitable for framing," Do you know if there is such a website for western states? My dad says that in the old days (before radio, television and I add, internet) men would spend their spare hours out in the barn trying to make improvements on their equipment, etc. They weren't always patented but both the great-grandparents I had in California and their relatives had patents. Genealogically you might be able to locate an elusive ancestor - otherwise it is just fun to see what they were thinking about.
