Bruce, in this book there is a Robert GLASSE, merchant/mariner of Bristol, listed as Master of several Indentured Servants who were sent mainly to Barbados (where I am from) and Virginia as follows: 1. John Chilcot - tailor - 4 Yrs Barbados 2. James Sharland - labourer - 4 Yrs Barbados 3. John Lewis - labourer - 3 Yrs Barbados 4. Daniell Smith - tucker - 4 Yrs Barbados 5. Elizabeth Collins - spinster - 4 Yrs Barbados 6. John Edwards - yeoman - 6 Yrs Barbados 7. David Morgan - ..?.. - 4 Yrs Barbados 8. John Stillett ..?.. - 4 Yrs Barbados 9. William Selfe of Bradley - 4 Yrs Barbados 10. Peter Treble - yeoman - 4 Yrs Barbados 11. James Collins - cook - 4 Yrs Barbados 12. Zachary Wheton - ..?.. - 4 Yrs Barbados 13 Henry Powell on ship "Charles" - 4 Yrs Barbados 14. Hugh Williams " " - 4 Yrs Barbados 15. Joan Sandy...................................4 Yrs Virginia 16. Mary Sandy ................................4 Yrs Virginia I am wondering if Robert GLASSE owned a plantation at one time in Barbados seeing that he sent so many of his servants there. However, GLASS(E) was not a common name in Barbados and if he did own property there, he probably had a Manager and Overseer to look after it. In one of the Volumes of Wills and Administrations I have for Barbados there is one Glass name mentioned in the Will of: ROSS: Robert, planter St. Lucy's Parish, 15 July 1676 . Friend & countryman William Bayne & his bro Phillip Bayne; countryman John Glass, John Symson & his son Alexander Symson, & John Ross the tailor; if any of my bros or sisters chn shall come to Bdos as servants they shall be set free; cousins William Ross & his bro Thomas Ross - Xtrs. signed Robert Ross Wit: Samuell Manerick, Francis Hogane, Wm: Graves Proved 28 Nov 1678 Hope you will be able to make something of all of this. The Margaret Glass I mentioned to you who is looking for family in Trinidad lives in Australia. I will forward her post to the Caribbean List separately. All the best with your research and would be pleased to hear if any of the above links to someone on your Mailing List. Barrie Callinan.
