Dear Phil, Your John A. GLASS, born 11 Jan 1827 in Clark County, IN, married Elizabeth CORTNER on 31 May 1857 in New Market, Oregon Township, Clark County, IN. Their bible record is on file in the DAR Library in Washington DC, and it lists the births and deaths of his parents and his children. I have an extract of it, if needed. Their parents were David GLASS, born 8 Aug 1781, died 27 Jan 1865, who married Mary KEIM, born 25 Jan 1787, and died 2 Aug 1862. The GLASS and KIME families lived near each other in the south east corner of Guilford County. Kimesville Road today crosses the South Prong of Stinking Quarter Creek, where the Glass family owned land. The families intermarried when Philip KIME (1762-1836) married about 1787 Dorothy Turley GLASS (C. 1770-1830). Although I have some files on the KIME lines, it is difficult so far to estimate the parents of Mary KIME. David GLASS was very probably a grandson of (the German) John Philip GLASS and Anna Maria ______, whose children were born in Opequon, VA after they settled there in 1732/33. That family moved to Orange County, now Guilford, by 1763. Of his sons, the most likely parents of David GLASS was John George GLASS, born 15 Dec 1736, died after 20 Aug 1825 (!), who married Eve LOW, daughter of David LOW. The 1790 census lists 3 males age 16 or under for George. One was John Philip GLASS, born abt 1777, and I think another was your David, born 1781. If so, both were named after grandparents. If David was not a son of John George, then the next most likely father was Philip GLASS (son of the original settler), born abt 1742, who 1st married Maria Barbara COBLE, and 2nd married Catherine GRAVES. That line is a problem to me....I need some help. The CORTNER line is well known in Guilford County, but I have no help for you there. Mike Cavenaugh (cavenaugh@aol.com)
