Born 5 September 1822 in Hartford, Ohio County, Kentucky, died 9 March 1903 in Austin, Texas. Historical information from Holt Co., MO. Galen Crow came to Holt Co. MO in 1851, engaging in the practice of law at Oregon, MO. After the death of his wife he moved to North Point - later to become Mound City where he engaged in the mercantile business and was the North Point Postmaster in 1855. On the 18th of February 1857, the town of Mound City was laid out and was incorporated by the General Assembly. Galen Crow was appointed president of the town company which consisted of William Jones, Ira & H. W. Peter, George E. Glass, John Burnett, B. F. Ruffner, R. Middleton, and Charles F. Holly. Mr. Crow became the Town1s first Postmaster. He served as the Holt County Sheriff from 1856 - 1860, and was sent to represent Holt County at theist General Assembly of Legislature. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate Army as a Colonel in General Sterling Price1s Brigade until he was take prisoner to Johnson1s Island where he remained 11 months. Mr. Crow1s second marriage was 13 October 1857 to Miss Cordelia Jones, daughter of William F. and Catherine Price Jones. They moved to Texas in 1867 where he did March 9, 1903 (I have a picture of Galen with his second wife.) Buried in the cemetery in Oregon, Holt Co., MO is Mary E. Crow (26 February 1829 - 18 June 1853), consort of Galen Crow. Also buried there is Alpheus Crow (27 December 1852-10 July 1853) son of G. and M.E. Crow. A.N. Crow, the son of Galen Crow died in Austin Texas April 1886 at the age of 38 years. 1850 Federal Census, Missouri, Holt Co. Call No. 312, Roll No. 401 District No. 38 Enumerated 17 October 1850 by A. Bevan Page 230 Dwelling 585, Family 585 Crow, Galen, age 26, M, Merchant, $75, born in Kentucky Crow, Mary, age 22, F, born in Kentucky Crow, Allen, age 2, M, born in Kentucky Phips or Plips (?), Harold, age 28, M, Physician, $150, born in Kentucky Phips or Plips (?), Vibella, age 19, F, born in Kentucky Phips or Plips (?), Charles, age 11/12, M, born in Kentucky McGary, Daniel, age 17, M, Clerk, born in Missouri I think that there is a good possibility that Galen was the brother of George W. Crow who came to Holt Co., MO abt. 1844. In 1844 George W. Crow married an Elizabeth H. (Hopkins) Barnes in Holt County. George W. Crow was a lawyer in the town of Oregon, Holt Co., MO I would appreciate any help that can be provided regarding the above individuals. Thanks.
