Hello all from Ohio, USA The following is info I have on Levi (Levy) Glass The Elder. Hopefully, some of the info will be of help to someone, somewhere. Levi (Levy) Glass The Elder, born 1730/35 in Va., died 1779 in Bladen, N.C. Wife's first name was Mary, Mary's maiden last name unknown. Through 2 land deeds, (1757,1758), Levi is traceable to Northampton, VA.. Land deeds in 1764, and 1771 place him in Bladen, N.C. where his occupation was a Tavern keeper. Bladen County was formed in 1734 from New Hanover. Levi and Mary had following 7 children: (1) Solomon Glass born about 1760 and was disowned by Levi. Reason for disowning ? (2)Mary Glass born about 1762 (3)Littleton Glass born about 1767 died before 1793 in N.C. (4)LEVI GLASS, SR. born in N.C. about 1766 died after 1855 in Sumter, Ga. Fought in Rev. war; enlisted at Fayetteville 1781/82; discharged March/April 1783 in Charleston, S.C. (5)Thomas Glass born about 1768 in N.C. (6)Rit(t)a Glass born about 1770 (7)Rebecca Glass born about 1772 (4A)LEVI GLASS, SR. Wife's name was Mary, her maiden last name unknown. A letter dated April 19, 1851 (age 87) shows LEVI, SR. requesting Rev. war pension and living in Barbour County, Ala. A letter dated April 25, 1855, (age 91) shows Levi requesting bounty land for serving in Rev. war. Letter says he was living in Holmes County, Florida at that time. Witness to this letter was Wm. J. Glass, one of his sons. LEVI, SR. and wife mary had following children: (1)James Wesley Glass born 1797/98 in Ga. Died 1861. Married Sarah (Arline) Glass 1-14- 1821 (2)Rebecca Glass born 1798 in Ga. Only available record is census of 1860 (age 60) that shows her living in Santa Rosa County, Florida with her brother William Glass. (3) Thomas Glass born about 1800 in Ga. Thomas was a farmer by trade. Married Kitty (Fulford) Glass 7-13-1821. Married Mary (McCormick) Glass 9-26-1844. (4)LEVI GLASS, JR. born about 1804/05 in Ga. died after 1860. LEVI GLASS, JR. was a farmer. Married Sarah Sally (Martin) Glass 1-10-1820. Sarah Sally Martin was born about 1804, died after 1842 in Barbour Co., Ala. LEVI JR. married Elizabeth (Pynes) Glass in 3-3-1850. (5)Littleton D. Glass born about 1810 in Ga. Died before 1899 and was a farmer. Married Nancy (Young) Glass, date unknown. Nancy was born about 1805 in Ga., died 9-13-99. Census of 1870 shows Littleton and Nancy living in Barbour County, Ala. (6)William J. Glass born about 1815 in Ga. (4A)LEVI GLASS, JR. Also had son named Levi Jackson Glass, born 4-11-1826 in Ga. Died 7- 26-1914 in Lauderdale, Mississippi. Thats about all the info I have on Levi Glass, The Elder. Now a personal note. It was customary in earlier days of marriage to name the first born son after fathers father (infants grandfather), and firstborn daughter after wife's mother (infants grandmother). If this be the case of Levi The Elder, then Levi The Elders father should have been named Solomon Glass. Again, this is speculation on my part and cannot be proven. Any help (Mother, Father, Sisters, Brothers, etc.) whatsoever on Levi The Elder would really be greatly appreciated. Thank you and hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend. Bud Glass
In a message dated 98-05-28 06:48:31 EDT, you write: >You have records of David Glass and Mary Keim...and the records are in German. This couple was from Orange County, now Guilford County, NC. There is another marriage between these two lines. The Glass line comes through John Philip Glass and his wife Anna Maria ____, and the Keim line comes through Philip Kime. I have a good guess for the parents of David Glass, (this line is my primary focus), and I have a large file on the Kime line, but have not yet gotten into the lineage of Mary Keim. Any help will be appreciated. Mike Cavenaugh
Hi again, I should have mentioned in my last message regarding some people being on two lists. Don't worry if you receive a message about being removed from the Glass-L list. You are still on the Glass-D List. Rgards Bruce Glass, List Owner.
Hi list members, some of you will have been getting your information twice. Once as an E-Mail directly to you. Secondly as a List of messages (Digest Mode). The reason was that you were subscribe to two lists. I have now fixed the problem and everyone is in Digest Mode which means that you will receive mail from the Glass-List as a collection of messages instead of just one at a time. Gradually the bugs are being ironed out. Welcome to the new list members, and good luck with your research. I shall be posting my research soon. Best Regards Bruce Glass, List Owner.
My line of research goes back eight generations to the marriage of James Glass (possibly born about 1730) and Eva Williams on 9 Oct 1758 at Dover Church in St. James Northam Parish (formed in 1744) in Goochland County (currently Fluvanna County) by Reverend William Douglas. I am reasonably certain they did not suddenly appear from a spacecraft fully grown, yet I cannot find any information on where they were born or who their parents were. It is a reasonable assumption to believe they were also Ulster Scots who migrated through Pennsylvania to Virginia. They may have arrived in America on one of the Palatine vessels in the 1730s, but so far, I've not found a single ship manifest that has any Glass surname aboard. I believe that James may have had two brothers by the names of John and William. I would appreciate any information you may have on James and Eva, their parents, siblings, or any of their six children (including Archer Glass - my line). Dave Glass dglass@gte.net
Hello Glass list members, In case anyone is interested I have pedigree information on 11 generations of a Glasse family of Wiltshire, England. It spans the year 1709 to present. They were living all around the world, England, South Africa, Jamaica, Australia, US, etc. Unfortunately, none are listed in Ireland or Scotland. I also have a genealogical story of the first Glasse family to emigrate to the US from Taunton, Somerset, England. They settled in Massachusetts and emigrated here in the mid-1600's with a family called "Cogan".The family history spans briefly in the late 1500's to present. The original spelling for their name was "Glasse" but through the years it has evolved to "Glass". I really would be interested to know if any of you had the same situation with the spelling of your surname Glass. I also have some photocopied pages from three "Glass family bibles" (one in German) which lists the family of David Glass and Mary Keim. I copied them from a microfilm I had ordered from the LDS family history center. Cinncinati, Ohio is mentioned in one place, and the German entries mention Germany. There is also mention of John Alexander Glass, Thomas Jefferson Glass among others. I don't have it in front of me so I can't remember the other names but if you are interested I will give you further information. At one time the bibles belonged to Dorcas Willyard Boyer.
I am searching for the parents and beyond of my great grandfather Julius Caesar Napoleon Glass who was born in May, 1834 in Tipton County, Tennessee. Any help greatly appreciated. Beth Glass

Hello to all you fellow Glass researchers !! Just to let you all know, I'm researching the Samuel Glass and Mary Gamble Glass line. Upon their arrival in America in 1735, with six grown children, spouses and grandchildren, the family initially settled in PA, but relocated to the Shenandoah Valley settlement of Joist Hite by 1736. I have many details of the offspring in America. My particular branch left Virginia in 1832 and ventured into Ohio. (This was Benjamin Glass, along with the Wood family, et al) who were in a well-accounted wagon-train to Wilmington (Clinton County). From there, I'm able to track some of the family venturing into Kansas, albeit briefly for my line, and back to Ohio. My grandfather, Robert Quinn Glass, moved from Ohio to South Carolina as a young man, in the early 1900's. My main areas of puzzlement include: --Finding Samuel and Mary in Ireland. They are said to have come from County Down, Banbridge, and were of an advanced age when they sailed in 1735. --Finding my g-grandfather, George Dillon Haworth Glass, during the brief pioneering days he spent in Kansas, circa 1885-7. I know that many of you also believe your Glass line sprang from Scotch-Irish roots, and I'm sure you have run into the same complications as I have in trying to track them. Subj: GLASSE Date: 98-05-26 09:34:50 EDT From: Taffymo To: Glass-L@rootsweb.com Hello Glass list members, I am researching the surname GLASSE. (sometimes spelled Glass, Glas) My ancestors came from Jamaica, West Indies, and some of their ancestors came originally from England. I am looking for any information on this surname in Jamaica from the mid-1600's to the present. From Jamaica, my relatives spread out to the US, Canada and England. These are the only names I have: John Alexander Glasse- he was listed on his son's birth certificate as being a "schoolmaster" in Jamaica in 1884-1887. (probably longer) John Cecil Glasse- son of John Alexander Glasse. His birth certificate says he was born in Clarendon parish, Milk River district, Kemps Hill. He married Mercedes (or Maresaide Benjamin Glasse) In 1914 Mercedes Glasse was living at 1c Arnold Rd., Kingston, Jamaica. Children: Carmen, Edna and Robert Glasse. Aubray Clive Glasse- son of John Alexander Glasse, also born in Clarendon parish. He married Hilda Glasse and was living in New York for awhile. Children: Carl, Gloria and Dorothy Glasse. Percival Glasse- son of John Alexander Glasse and listed on the 1921 Voters List in Jamaica as living in Love Lane in Kingston, Jamaica. Lived in New York also for awhile. Children: Dudley Glasse and others. Elpheda Glasse- birth register says she is the daughter of a John Glasse in Jamaica. (possibly the same John Alexander Glasse that I am researching.) Her mother's last name was Hey. Edward Glasse- listed in Port Royal in 1751. Was a church warden there. Possibly an English ancestor. Family from Wiltshire, England. Want any mention of him in Jamaica, especially want to know the names of his descendents. William Bulkeley Glasse- married Maryann Parmynter in the 1700's. Want any mention of him in Jamaica and also would like to know of any descendents in Jamaica. He is also from Wiltshire, England. Ralph Glasse- of Manchester or Portland. Ancestors or descendents in Jamaica ? Arthur Glasse- want any mention of him in Jamaica, especially want to know his descendents. Would like any information on the Mt. Hope School in Portland, Jamaica where a J.H. Glasse was a teacher and manager. Would appreciate any assistance with any of these names or any other Glasse members in Jamaica. Thank you in advance. -----Original Message----- From: Margaret Fortier <perper@tir.com> To: bdglass@CITCOM.net <bdglass@CITCOM.net> Date: Wednesday, May 20, 1998 5:15 PM Subject: Christina Glass Greetings, there was quite a history of Christina Glass in my family history. Christina Glass was born in Germany, April 6, 1787 and died Nov. 21, 1880. She married three times, first to William Rupert ( from Holland) , then to Dunkle and lastly to Cribbs. William Rupert and Christina Glass ran away and were married somewhere near Philadephia. Both families opposed the marriage so they went to Ohio and never heard from either family afterward. The reason the families opposed the marriage was that at that time the Hollanders and the Germans were very bitter toward towards each other. The Rupert family was a very wealthy family and were engaged in shipping trade. William Ruperts father was a sea captain and had been given a grant of land in Ohio after the Rev. War. for service in the US. William and Christina went to Ohio with two horses and a cow. Later they moved to a farm near Canoe Ripple, Beaver twp, Clarion Cty. PA. It was here that Rupert died at 40. Christina later married Dunkle and had several more children. No issue with Cribbs. My great grandmother Margaret Zillifro Adams recorded this and as a little girl visiting her grandmother Rupert Logue and great grandmother Glass Rupert Dunkle Cribbs. Margaret asked grandmother Logue to thread her needle, Grandmother logue passed the needle to her mother. Margaret's sister in amazement said, " Why grandmother, haven't you learned to thread a needle yet?" Hope this is of some assistance. There are more stories recorded of Christina Glass, but little of her family. Margaret Anne Fortier
To all list members. I have had a few teething problems setting up the list, unfortunately I discovered that only about half of the addresses that should have been subscribed were in fact subscribed. This has now been fixed (famous last words). To post messages please use the address <Glass-L@rootsweb.com> To unsubscribe from the list please use the address <Glass-D-Request@rootsweb.com> with the word unsubscribe in the mesage area (NOTHING ELSE or you will not be unsubscribed). To contact me directly please use my address <Bruce.Glass@xtra.co.nz> To Grant Buttars at <G.Buttars@dundee.ac> Grant could you please re-post your last message so that those missed off the list can now get your information. To Margaret Fortier at <perper@tir.com> Margaret I would suggest that you post your material about your Christina Glass as there are list members researching German lines. Heather Glass at <WINTERSCOL@aol.com> Heather please re-post your material with the address <GLASS-D@rootsweb.com> You used the incorrect address <GLASS-D-request@rootsweb.com> which is only for joining or leaving the list. I would suggest that each of you start off by describing your area of research, a brief description of your ancestry and what information you are currently trying to find. There are a lot of researchers out there to make contact with. This list is your vehicle to make contact with them. Best Regards and happy hunting Bruce Glass, List Owner
