    2. Doris/Chuck Denton
    3. Hi: Put a pin in Pleasant Hill, CA which is about 25 mi east of San Francisco, just over the hill from Berkeley, more or less. (Next to Walnut Creek, if that is on your map.) I have had no luck searching for Elisha (Elias, E.W.) Glass who came to California 1849/50 and died in Diamond Springs, El Dorado Co., CA in 1853. Supposedly he came from TN or KY. Surely someone has a missing several times great uncle who left to make his fortune and never came back. (He married and had a daughter in California - there is no evidence that he made his fortune.) P.S. I have a non-Glass related nephew who lives in Nelson, NZ. I couldn't find your location on my very poor map. ?? 1. Adding another Pin
    2. John Glass
    3. Hi Bruce: Add my pin at Hartland, Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada, home of the Longest Covered Bridge in the World. Hartland is about 70 miles north of the provincial capital, Fredericton and it is located on the banks of the beautiful St. John River. The material published in the list to date has been very interesting, but I have not been able to make a connection with my branch of the "Glasses". My great great grandfather, John Glass, said in a Land Petition filed in Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick, in 1823, that he was about five years from his native country of Ireland. Perhaps, a connection can be made through his daughters: Phoebe (husband's name unknown); Eliza (married William Anderson, a musician and soldier); Margaret (married John Hather). All of these girls married British soldiers, stationate at Fredericton, N.B., and returned to the U.K. John's sons were: Robert (my great grandfather) stayed in N.B.; John may have been killed in the Battle of Williamsburg in the U.S. Civil War [he married a Carrie (last name unknown) and they had one son, Charles Lockwood Glass,] and William C. went to San Francisco and was not heard from after the great earthquake of 1906(?). Two others sons died young. I am hoping that some day "The GLASS List" will provide a connection so that we can share our notes. I don't mind you publishing my mailing address - 55 Clark St., Hartland, N.B., Canada E0J 1N0 Good Researching! John Glass

    2. Put another pin in the map from Texas, this time in Kountze, TX, abt 20 miles north of Beaumont. I've not seen anything on the list re my Glass connection, but have not tired of reading the items. I am descended from Catherine Glass and James Daniel (both b prior to 1800) from Rutherford Co, TN. I have recently received a great deal of info on these two people, but have not yet sorted through it which is why I've not posted to this list before today. Julie

    3. Hi List Members. Below is re-printed from Rootscom, the people who look after the technical side of these automated mailing lists, the reasons for not allowing attachments to messages posted to these lists. > RootsWeb accepts only plain text > mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', > and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. > You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off > the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail > reader, or don't use any attachments. See > http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for > instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail > programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. > > We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that > accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail > programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. > Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these > special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages > pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, > HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on > RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format > produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, > so we find it's best just to use plain text. > > -- The RootsWeb staff > It is still possible to send attachments directly to a list member (to their own address) but NOT to the list. I have had some very positive responses from some list members regarding the worth of the list and the various successes that some of you have had. I am also pleased at the response from those of you who wish to have a pin on my map showing your locations worldwide. Keep up the good work and happy hunting, regards Bruce Glass, List Master.

    3. Dear Bruce, You can stick a pin in Stella, North Carolina, USA for me. You probably won't find Stella as it consists primarily of a Post Office so stick it along the White Oak River about halfway between Jacksonville NC and Morehead City NC in Carteret County on the east coast of North Carolina. So far, nothing on the glass list has been helpful although there have been some possible leads that I have yet to follow. Thanks for all your work. 1. Update RE: list and pictures.
    2. Bruce Glass
    3. Hi list members, I hope you are all having luck with your research. The list currently has almost one hundred members and seems to be running smoothly. I would be interested in hearing if anyone has had any significant assistance from being on the list, ie. have you found contacts or information that has helped you in your research. Please send a message to me directly. I would also like to put a pin in a world map of where each of you is located. If you would like to send me a message telling me the town, state and country it would be appreciated. I don't need your complete address unless you are happy to provide it. All information will remain private to me and will not be disclosed to other list members. My current project is sorting out all my accumulated (almost all Scottish) data and typing it into files that can be accessed easily for reference. Also the files can be sent as attachments to who ever they may be beneficial to. The files I have created so far are as follows ..... Census Extractions:- All census extractions that I have accumulated for Glass names in Scotland. Parish Registers: All Parish Register extractions for Glass and Coutts names that I have accumulated in Scotland. Monumental Inscriptions: All MI's that I have accumulated for Glass names in Scotland. As you can see the data is only for Scotland, where the bulk of my research is carried out. If you are researching in Scotland please let me know who and where you are researching and I shall see if I can help. If anyone researching in Scotland requires a copy of any one of these files I can send them as file attachments to you. They are all in WordPerfect format but can easily be converted by most word processing programs. Please do not request the files unless you have a specific need for them, they all cost Net time to transmit. If any list member has copies of any Scottish Census, Parish Registers or Monumental Inscriptions for the name Glass I would love to receive it for addition to the respective file. Perhaps some list member could do the same work for all of the USA researchers !!!! As mentioned in an earlier message I have all of the Glass & Coutts names from the Scottish and Irish IGI on my computer and am happy to do look-ups for anyone unable to make access to a LDS FHC. Finally in answer to Catherine Adams, Unfortunately Rootscom proceedures do not allow attachments to messages. If anyone wishes a copy of a very special photo of Princess Diana and I taken at Balmoral in 1985 I can send it to them directly. I have tried to send a copy of the photo as part of this message but it may not work either. Happy hunting, Kia Ora & Haere Ra from Aotearoa, Bruce Glass, List Master.

    2. Mr. Bruce Glass, I really enjoyed those photos you have on the Web of "where the list master lives". Now I wish I could see a photo of the "list master". Your homeland is beautiful. Any of your ancestors in those two photos of the cricket and rugby teams?
