    1. Samuel Glass - Ark & TX
    2. Is anyone researching Samuel Glass? He is on the 1850 & 1860 AR census. He married Alice Griffith in Ar or TX. Her brother was nicknamed "Coon" Griffith. They settled in Hill County, TX before 1887 and had 5 children; Samuel Jr., Luther, Frank, Stella, and Jewel. I have history from there forward and will be glad to share. I just mailed a request for a homestead file. Someone on another list reported that there was a 40 question report that had to be completed by the applicant as well as 28 question reports that had to be filed by two witnesses. Don't know what the Bounty land or cash entry files would contain. Here is another url which explains a little about the files and and how to obtain copies. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/research.htm Dennis West in Knoxville, TN. --part0_904230262_boundary--

    1. Land Patents
    2. Here is a great website ....www.glorecords.blm.gov/..... It covers land patents issued in several Eastern States back to 1820. I entered a last name GLASS search and found 77 Patents in Alabama (Williamson and Zachariah Glass who were just mentioned on this page were there), 24 in Ohio, 22 in Indiana, etc.. I clicked on a highlighted name and the specifics of the patent, including the county appeared. Further down on that page I printed off a copy of the actual patent that was clear enough to be framed! Place of birth of Zachariah Glass was VA. county unknown. He was on a census record for Halifax county VA in 1782. My wife is a descendent of Williamson Glass who moved to Mississippi Territory and was in Clarke Co. Al as early as 1820. There is limited info on Manson Glass in this data, but records were found in Greene Co. GA in 1805. A grandson of Williamson Glass, born in Marengo Co. Al in 1844 and was named Manson Albert Glass. Does one of us have incorrect data for Manson Glass, or are there two Manson Glass's born about the same time who could be cousins? A cousin - Mike Glass - probably has better data than I. ========== Mike Glass, did you get this post? ========== Dennis West in Knoxville, TN.

    3. Hi List Members, I hope all of you are researching hard and having some success. I am still in the process of refiling all of my research notes and have just come across a letter that has a lot of information that may help someone. It comes from a letter written to me November 24th 1995 and is from Mr Guerdon L Churchill Jnr, P O Box 326, 4564 Hwy 12, Valley Springs (Calaveras County), California, 95252. "My Great Great Grandparents were David Glass and Eliza Jane (Hall) Glass who arrived in California in August of 1850 with three covered wagons and eventually made their way to the San Remo area in Contra Costa County where they purchased over 700 acres of the Jose Maria Amador Spanish Land Grant called the Amador Grant. They had the following children. Mary Priscilla Glass born December 13 1845, died June 19 1845 at Millersport, Ohio. Francis Marion Glass born July 6 1847, died October 15 1850 in Hangtown (Placerville) California after their arrival in the covered wagon train. Albert William Glass born February 25 1852. He was a farmer and noted horse breeder in Sycamore Valley, Contra Costa, California. Clara Isadora Glass born February 9 1854 married Edgar Durkee Ivory a clerk in the railway mail service between California and Oregon. Annette Idel Glass born May 11 1856. She and her sister Loretta ran the Glass Ranch all their lives. She was a noted artist also. Never married. Loretta Irene Glass born July 26 1858. Never married. Franklin Lafayette Glass born april 11 1861. County Clerk at Contra Costa County, Post Master and later Judge. Frederick Elmer Glass born June 16 1864. Involved in operating huge ranches in Nevada and California. A tax appraiser and very much involved with banking in Nevada. Lived in Reno, Nevada, and Oakland, California and developed water rights throughout the San Joaquin Valley in California. He was my Great Grandfather. Clement Rolla Glass born June 6 1867. A fascinating man who graduated from Unervisty of Pacific. Spent some time in the 1896 Klondike gold rush and later very involved in tin mining in Bolivia primarily. He was killed in 1909 and his son Vincent was sent there to be raised by his brother Frank. Vincent graduated from St.Mary's College. However nothing is known of this family." I hope the above is of some use to someone out there. If it is please let me know as I have a letter here from another lady who is connected to this family. Best regards to you all, Bruce Glass, List Master, New Zealand.

    1. John Alexander Glass
    2. Dear Phil, Your John A. GLASS, born 11 Jan 1827 in Clark County, IN, married Elizabeth CORTNER on 31 May 1857 in New Market, Oregon Township, Clark County, IN. Their bible record is on file in the DAR Library in Washington DC, and it lists the births and deaths of his parents and his children. I have an extract of it, if needed. Their parents were David GLASS, born 8 Aug 1781, died 27 Jan 1865, who married Mary KEIM, born 25 Jan 1787, and died 2 Aug 1862. The GLASS and KIME families lived near each other in the south east corner of Guilford County. Kimesville Road today crosses the South Prong of Stinking Quarter Creek, where the Glass family owned land. The families intermarried when Philip KIME (1762-1836) married about 1787 Dorothy Turley GLASS (C. 1770-1830). Although I have some files on the KIME lines, it is difficult so far to estimate the parents of Mary KIME. David GLASS was very probably a grandson of (the German) John Philip GLASS and Anna Maria ______, whose children were born in Opequon, VA after they settled there in 1732/33. That family moved to Orange County, now Guilford, by 1763. Of his sons, the most likely parents of David GLASS was John George GLASS, born 15 Dec 1736, died after 20 Aug 1825 (!), who married Eve LOW, daughter of David LOW. The 1790 census lists 3 males age 16 or under for George. One was John Philip GLASS, born abt 1777, and I think another was your David, born 1781. If so, both were named after grandparents. If David was not a son of John George, then the next most likely father was Philip GLASS (son of the original settler), born abt 1742, who 1st married Maria Barbara COBLE, and 2nd married Catherine GRAVES. That line is a problem to me....I need some help. The CORTNER line is well known in Guilford County, but I have no help for you there. Mike Cavenaugh (cavenaugh@aol.com)

    2. Thanks to BHAPPY for his tribute to Dewey Lee Glass, who is my grandmother's half-brother. "DL", as we know him, is not likely to be joining our internet family. His 76 years old, and his friend who taught him to use a computer and was encouraging him to go online, died recently. Also, DL told me just this week (at the funeral) that he had grown bored with research. Fortunately, he has published all his work through the years and distributed it to many of his family members, myself included. When I can afford a new computer, I will create a more modern database from which I can search and better respond to some of the inquiries from the list. Sandy Pelham

    3. Hello to all list members from Bud Glass in Shelby, Ohio; The purpose of this memo is to give credit to one of our relatives whom is not a member of our list, but has spent 25-30 years of his life researching the surname Glass. This man certainly deserves our thanks for his tireless effort and self-sacrifice. The gentleman I am speaking of is Dewey Lee Glass of Montgomery, Alabama. Unfortunately, as of this writing, to the best of my knowledge, Dewey has not connected to the Internet. Hopefully, he will connect soon. My wife and I met Dewey for the first time approximately one year ago. Although our meeting was brief, I personally considered it an honor. Annually, there is a large Glass reunion each summer near the Georgia-Florida state line. It is my understanding that Dewey is also largely responsible for the success of this reunion. Also my personal thanks to Bruce for starting and maintaining this list.
