    1. Linda Brown: James Glass Family
    2. Craig Noah
    3. Hello all, Linda, I doubt if this will actually help you, but I'll give what I have. My mother was born Carolyn Sue Glass, and is descended from an Old George Glass who came to America from Ireland probably in the late 1700's. That line is too long for me to compile and include here - it will be on my web page (eventually) at <http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Woods/2676>. However, in researching my mother's line, I came across three generations of GLASS that I cannot fit into my tree (yet). That group I will give here. Samuel Glass married Mary McCormick on January 14, 1800 in Kentucky. They had six children: Catharine Glass was born November 26, 1800 in Kentucky Joseph Glass was born November 6, 1802 in Kentucky Samuel Glass was born October 16, 1804 in Kentucky Paulina Glass was born April 19, 1807 in Kentucky and married David Newton Sharp in 1842 in Shelby Co, Kentucky Hugh McCormick Glass was born April 24, 1809 in Shelby Co, Kentucky and married Martha J. Venable about 1841 in Kentucky. They had one son (see below). Mary M. Glass was born March 8, 1811 in Kentucky. James Venable Glass was born on October 25, 1846 in Kentucky to Hugh and Martha. This is all I have for this group. As I said, the rest of the Glass names that I have are connected and too numerous to compile and include here. They will be on my web page (give me a couple of weeks). I don't know how or if this helps you. I do have a James Glass in the other grouping that is a son of Old George Glass, also in Kentucky. I do not have record of either James being married. Sincerely, Craig Noah

    1. Rootsweb Problems PLEASE NOTE:
    2. Bruce Glass
    3. Hi list members, there has been a problem at Rootsweb with their Automated Mailing Lists. The problem is now fixed and hopefully everything can now get back to normal. I would suggest that EVERYONE who has posted anything at all to the list since September 11th 1998 PLEASE re-post it. Those that are in Digest mode may have missed out on your message. The second point is that some of you are corresponding directly with each other on matters of GLASS genealogy ie. by-passing the list. This is fine as far as it goes, however, the information that you are passing to each other could also be of interest to others on the list. We must always remember that a small piece of information that we think is only relevant to the person we are sending it to could be of major importance to someone else who can not see it if it isn't on the list. The list can not work if all of us simply sit in the shadows waiting for something to appear that is helpful to us. We all have something in our files that may or may not be relevant to our own personal research, it may however be of GREAT importance to someone else who can't find it. The most successful genealogists are those that help others by sharing what they have. Try it you may be surprised. I hope all of you are having great success with your research, if you are let us know what you have found. Happy hunting, Bruce Glass, List Master, New Zealand.

Susan ______________________________ Forward Header __________________________________ Subject: [CROW-L] Family of Galen Crow Author: emurray@ninenet.com_at_internet at X400POST Date: 8/30/98 5:42 PM Seeking descendants of, and information regarding a Galen Crow. Born 5 September 1822 in Hartford, Ohio County, Kentucky, died 9 March 1903 in Austin, Texas. Historical information from Holt Co., MO. Galen Crow came to Holt Co. MO in 1851, engaging in the practice of law at Oregon, MO. After the death of his wife he moved to North Point - later to become Mound City where he engaged in the mercantile business and was the North Point Postmaster in 1855. On the 18th of February 1857, the town of Mound City was laid out and was incorporated by the General Assembly. Galen Crow was appointed president of the town company which consisted of William Jones, Ira & H. W. Peter, George E. Glass, John Burnett, B. F. Ruffner, R. Middleton, and Charles F. Holly. Mr. Crow became the Town1s first Postmaster. He served as the Holt County Sheriff from 1856 - 1860, and was sent to represent Holt County at theist General Assembly of Legislature. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate Army as a Colonel in General Sterling Price1s Brigade until he was take prisoner to Johnson1s Island where he remained 11 months. Mr. Crow1s second marriage was 13 October 1857 to Miss Cordelia Jones, daughter of William F. and Catherine Price Jones. They moved to Texas in 1867 where he did March 9, 1903 (I have a picture of Galen with his second wife.) Buried in the cemetery in Oregon, Holt Co., MO is Mary E. Crow (26 February 1829 - 18 June 1853), consort of Galen Crow. Also buried there is Alpheus Crow (27 December 1852-10 July 1853) son of G. and M.E. Crow. A.N. Crow, the son of Galen Crow died in Austin Texas April 1886 at the age of 38 years. 1850 Federal Census, Missouri, Holt Co. Call No. 312, Roll No. 401 District No. 38 Enumerated 17 October 1850 by A. Crow who came to Holt Co., MO abt. 1844. In 1844 George W. Crow married an Elizabeth H. (Hopkins) Barnes in Holt County. George W. Crow was a lawyer in the town of Oregon, Holt Co., MO I would appreciate any help that can be provided regarding the above individuals. Thanks. 1. Thomas Glass & Mary McCormick
    2. I have a paper written by Bud Glass from Ohio, USA. I would like to talk about Thomas Glass and Mary McCormick. They were in Early Co., Ga. in 1860. I have been thinking that my family probably comes down from Levi, but have not been able to make a connection. This paper does it for me. I was thrilled about this until I talked to Charles Echols, a fellow Glass family member. Charles would like to talk to Bud. He is not sure that the Thomas & Mary Glass in the 1850 Early Co., Ga. census is our people. I would like to hear from Bud. Rosa Lee Glass Hillsborough Co., Fl.

    1. Matthias GLASS
    2. Richard Baith
    3. Thought that I'd post this again to see if anybody has info on this. I am the 4th great grandson of Matthias and Effa or Eva (?) GLASS. Here is a little blurb from my notes on him: Matthias Glass b before 1750 probably in Germany, d Mar 1830 Butler Township, Columbiana Co OH, m Effa Christina. In 1763 he was in Northhampton Co PA; in 1776 he is in Straban Township, York/Adams Co PA; in 1801 he sold his land there are went to Frederick Co MD. In 1812 he purchased government land in Beaver township, Columbiana/Mahoning Co OH. He sold this land in 1816. He died at the home of his son John in Columbiana County, Ohio. He is sometimes credited for naming Berlin Township, Mahoning County, for whatever that is worth but that is open to debate. Most of the early members of this family were in Columbiana and Mahoning County, Ohio with a few spilling over into eastern Portage County. This is my direct line: Direct Descendants of Matthias Glass I 1 Matthias Glass I Bef. 1750 - 1830 .. +Effa Christina .... 2 John Glass I 1775 - 1864 ........ +Anna Barbara Shriver 1781 - 1875 ........... 3 John Glass 1817 - 1890 ............... +Mary Mountz 1817 - 1887 .................. 4 Harriet Glass 1857 - 1945 ...................... +Henry Rorabaugh Anderson 1853 - 1929 ......................... 5 Mary Alta Anderson 1886 - 1960 ............................. +Robert Richard Kommel 1882 - 1962 ............................... 6 Helen Mae Kommel 1913 - ................................... +Arthur Eli Baith 1906 - 1964 ...................................... 7 Richard Dennis Baith 1946 - Some of the other lines that married into the Glass line includes BRENNER, MESSIMORE, MORNINGSTAR, SHIVELY, HAWN, HARMON and BURKEY.
