Surnames: Glanville Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nBZ.2ACEB/63.2 Message Board Post: I have just come across this reference. My GG grandfather was James Glanville who was I believe a son of William Glanville of Colan and Elizabeth, possibly Elford. In a box of family papers my cousin has come across a copy of a letter from a Thomas Glanville to his mother. The return address is Mr Stephen Maddox near St Louis, he appears to be a farmer. Thomas refers to his elder brother John and his american wife, no name, and children. Is this likely to be of interest to you? I have been unable to trace this John and Thomas so far though there is a will of a William Glanville of Colan in the Cornwall Records Office which I hope to look at in the next couple of months and may give some names.

Surnames: GLANVILL ANDERSON KAYLL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nBZ.2ACEB/49.3 Message Board Post: Hello Dave You asked about descendants of your Abingdon Glanvilles. How about ancestors? My link is a bit tentative I'm afraid, but here goes. My mother's mother was a Glanvill, born in Liverpool, UK, in 1884. Her grandfather was a George Glanvill, and according to the 1861 census, he was born in Berkshire in about 1825. On IGI there is a George christened in Abingdon 23 Jan 1825, parents Edward and Sarah. These names are in use for several generations, which is a possible confirmation. There is a snag, though, as there always is. In the 1851 census, he's described as being from London. However, he was then lodging with another family and I suspect that he did not complete the census form himself, as his age is wrong too. Any clues? Allan
