Hello, folks, it's been some time since we've had a roll call, so let's have one now! Here are the rules: 1. Participation is completely optional! 2. Because I hope we'll have a good response, pls post only the minimum information necessary, which would normally be: - surname(s) of interest (with given names if thought necessary); - date range(s) being researched; and - location(s) of interest; unless you think there's good reason for additional information. 3. Don't consider the roll call necessarily limited to only the surname of THIS list ... sometimes links can be made through multiple surnames 4. If you think you have a "hit" with someone else, pls consider posting the "hit" to the list as well, in case there's more than one person interested! Have fun! Peter List Admin.

Elizabeth and William were both born about 1776. I found them on the 1841 census where William is listed as a pauper. They have passed away before the 1851 census. Their son James TIPPETT marrried Mary BILKEY 9 Nov 1833 in St Columb Minor, Cornwall. James and Mary's son Mark migrated here to New Zealand in about 1873. Any info appreciated.
I am new to the list, and would be very pleased to hear from anyone with possible connections to my GLANVILLE family history. My maternal grandmother is Elizabeth GLANVILLE, b 1900. Her gg grandfather was William GLANVILLE who founded a GLANVILLE lineage in Bedminster, Bristol. He married Ann SHORT in 1823. There are a couple of hypotheses concerning William's birthplace and year, but, given information in census returns and William's death certificate, his birthplace appears to be London, abt 1793. I have only just started to examine GLANVILLEs in London but using Jay Glanville's WWW information, IGI and Ancestry.com, the most likely lead is a William GLANVILLE Christening: JUL 1793 St Botolph Without Aldgate, London, London, England (Parents: John and Elizth GLANVILLE.) (IGI). A marriage entry is consistent with the parents' names is: "John Glanville m. Eliza (or is it "Elizth") EVANS in 1790 at St Botolph Without Aldgate, London (Ancestry.com)". Thanks Darryl (Gwynne) Georgetown, Ontario, Canada
Hello Ken, I assume that both the baptisms were at Camborne. Have you checked to the burial register? It might include one of the Josephs, if he died as a child and it might say - son of ..... Folks, this will be one of those very rare posts from me advising the list about a virus alert. As many of you are likely aware by now, a new type of worm has appeared over the last 24 hours or so that does NOT require an attachment to be opened in order for the virus to be activated. It's called by various names by different AV providers, many of the names "Beagle" or "Bagel", and there are a number of brand new strains, including -O, -P, -Q, -R, -S, and -T. Most newspapers around the world today will have a news report about this new worm, with more details. This post is NOT meant to alarm anyone, and no-one should be alarmed IF (a) you have regularly updated(!) AV software running, and (b) if running in an Microsoft Windows environment, you regularly download and install the most current MS patches. For further information on this (and all other) virus threats, pls see: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ For further information on available MS patch downloads, pls see: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp Thanks, and as Phil Esterhaus used to say, "Hey, let's be careful out there!" Peter Wyant List Admin. p.s. any comments to me off-list, please.

Folks, just doing a test ... nothing to worry about. Thanks, Peter Wyant List Admin.
Would like to help, but can you please be Specific about what you know... Is the name Samuel Mitchell from a census record, perhaps from the marriage register - you have given an exact date for marriage. Do the record sources you have provide other information, e.g. marriage certif would name his father and provide occupations. Do you believe this couple emigrated from the UK? Any idea when? This information can be used to eliminate Samuels and Louisas from other sources and perhaps help provide you the info you seek. A Samuel Mitchell was baptised Newlyn East 1 Jul 1855 (and found in 1861 and 1871 censuses) - but without further info, cannot be certain if it was the same person you describe. Regards Jay > I don't have very much information. Samuel Mitchell Glanville born 1855 in Newlyn East. Married Louisa Hawkey 19 April 1877 and I think they had a son called Henry. I would appreciate any information on this family. <

Good day Folks I have just found your mailing site and this is a brief introduction to my GLANVILLE link. News from the Mines Newsletter No. 124 Dated July 1968 Mr. E. T. GLANVILLE, a Kimberley pioneer, has died at the age of 79 in Johannesburg. Mr. GLANVILLE was born in Grahamstown in 1889, s.o. Thomas GLANVILLE and Edith WILSON) At the age of 16 he moved to Kimberley and started his career with the De Beers Company. He remained with the Company for 42 years, retiring in 1947 as a shift boss at Bultfontein Mine. Mr. GLANVILLE had the distinction of having worked in every mine in Kimberley. He also went down the shaft of the famous Big Hole. In 1925 he travelled to Tanganyika, now Tanzania, as a member of the De Beers prospecting team. Mr. GLANVILLE was a keen member of the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade and his knowledge of first aid saved many lives underground. During WWI he served with the First South African Ambulance Brigade, which was attached to the Kimberley Regiment, in South West Africa. (Namibia) In 1967 he left Kimberley to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. ABELL, in Johannesburg. Mr. GLANVILLE is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. D.A. CURRIE and Mrs. G. P. ABELL I do know that there were two GLANVILLE families residing in Grahamstown. Anybody researching this South African link? Best wishes Becky Port Elizabeth, South Africa Researching: HENWICK; HILL; HORN(E); MEREDITH; DEYZEL; LARSEN; WILSON; LYNAR; HENNING; STERLEY; THECK; BEST; BRAUN, GREENER; GLANVILLE.

This is to let you know of a new website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~glanville This site concentrates on the Glanvill / Glanville family in England, in particular at Ashburton in Devon and Maker and Rame in Cornwall. The site includes a list of probates in England from 1858 to 1950 with an index, also photos of Ashburton and the Parishes of Maker and Rame and some graves. Surnames associated with the family include SAINTHILL, HALSE, HALLS, COUCH, MATTHEWS, SPRIDDLE, LANGDON, ATTWILL, HOOPER, GLYNN and WAYMOUTH. Regards, Ray Turner Epsom, Auckland, New Zealand
I believe the marriage was registered St Columb in q2 1877. I find no trace of them in the 1881 census, so conclude they had emigrated by then. (I have one instance where the couple left the church directly to the port and emigrated immediately) Samuel Mitchell Glanville was aged around 16 in the 1871 census at Newlyn, living with his widowed mother Maria. Baptised 1 Jul 1855 at Newlyn East. HOWEVER note confusion between Samuel Mitchell Glanville with Maria, and Samuel Mitchell Glanville who married Mary House in 1864. Cannot be two marriages of same Samuel as "the other" is also found with Mary in 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses. Until resolved, my database records both as offspring of Thomas and Maria - but this cannot be. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=uk_glanville Any further information you can bring to clarify this would be helpful.
