Author: paul14031 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.glanville/200.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Susan, James Hall is my G-G--Grandfather. The information I have is that he was born in 1797 at Honiton, Devon to John (b 1762, Honiton, Devon) and Hannah Hall (b 1775, Honiton, Devon), and married Elizabeth Glanville on 15 September 1833 at Plymouth in Devon. The emigrated to South Australia on board the "Brightman", arriving at Port Adelaide on 13 December 1840. John Henry Hall was lost at sea, the exact circumstances I do not know. However a family legend has it that the ship stopped at Cape Town in South Africa to take extra water and stores on board. John Henry wanted to go ashore with the landing party, but his parents forbade it. He kept pestering them, and finally they relented and allowed him to go with the strict instructions to stay with the men. However, being a small boy, he soon wandered off and was never seen again. I do not know if this is accurate, however the information I have is that he was born in 1840, making him only a few months old when they reached Cape Town. Sounds a little too young to be wanting to go off sightseeing. James died at Lovington, South Australia, on 3 November 1868. I have more information on his and Elizabeth's family if you want, such as dates of birth, death and marriage, spouse's name, children and so on. Hope this helps, Paul Johnston Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Are you still looking for Katherine's family? I have information on John & Bessy (Pyburne) Glanville, who emigrated from Cork in the 1870s and settled in Tarrytown. John was my mother's 'grand uncle'. Your Katherine's older brother RIchard, b 1870 in Cork, moved from Tarrytown to Fairfield CT about 1910 with his wife Pauline. Their three daughters (Katherine's nieces) were named Catherine, Elizabeth and Helen. My mother visited Elizabeth and Helen in the 70's, after they all were put in touch by relatives back in Cork. I have lots on Glanvilles in Cork and would be happy to share any information that may be helpful. 3. Seasons greetings Cynthia, You have probably found the following on the Family Search site: Alice baptised 18 Apr 1790 at Camborne. Probable marriage of parents Roger Glanvill and Joanna Trathen at Camborne on 1 Jan 1777. Baptism of possible father, Roger, 15 Dec 1754 at Camborne, his father Roger. Baptism of possible mother, Joanna, 21 Dec 1757 at St Agnes, her father Richard Trathun, mother Joanna. On Genes Reunited - Alice 1790 is on the family tree of Jennifer and one other. Her father Roger is also on Jennifer's tree and four others. As far as I know, I am not related to these people. 3. Hi Susan and Ray, Thanks for that last post. I am a descendant of James Hall and Elizabeth Glanville also seeking information about their forebears. Please contact me if you are happy to share info. Both were "Of this Parish" and signed with their marks. The witnesses were Thomas Glanvell and Hannah Maria Glanvell. That is how the Curate wrote the surnames. The witness names might help in identifying Elizabeth. I hope that you are on this list because I could not reply through the Message Board.
