Hello Listers In a box of photographs I inherited (on the deaths of my parents) are 2 postcard photographs of Gunner A.T. GLANVILLE, Australian M.C.C., Ypres, Somme. One is blank on the reverse, the other has a pencil message, signed Albert. I have no idea why they were in a box of BARRETT, STEPHENS & GIFFORD memorabilia mainly relating to Devon & Cornwall, UK. However, if they are of interest to anyone on this list, please contact me at myra@minebydesign.co.uk Regards Myra Cordrey
Jay, Thanks so much for responding. I have visited your great site many times. However, this really is just an acknowledgement as I am about to leave so it may be a day or two before I get back to you. One thing, though, I'm sorry my wording confused you. It was William Cock (later changed to Cox) who married Jane Truscott and eventually moved to Wales. Best Wishes Beryl Reno, Nevada
Hello everyone, I am new to the list and am wondering if any of you connect with my Glanville family. I have a Sarah Glanville, born 1791 in the Duloe/Pelynt area. She married Joseph Cock of St. Germans. One of their children William, married Jane Truscott and moved around between St. Germans, St. Ive and Landulph. They later moved, with at least some of their children to Wales. Sarah Glanville's father appears to have been Sampson but I have no mother's name and I have found 2 Sampsons, one married to Jane May and one married to Sarah Jose - both in the 1770's. Sarah Glanville was my great-great-great-grandmother. Any help greatfully appreciated. Beryl Reno, Nevada

Jay Glanville holds a wonderful data base of many of the Glanvills, born married and who died in England. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/jglanville/genes.htm Jays data base is not complete but it has been a wonderful help to me and my group, as he has also. I am part of a group of 6 people who found each other on the net and all descend off the Glanvill Family of Maker and Rame in Cornwall...which is the next parish to Camborne..what I have found is that the two families did not mix much but they would somewhere along the line have descended from the Famous Family of Glanvill of England further back . You may get quite a shock at the information Jay has and the Family Trees he has on his site...the tree goes back to about 1066 with the first Glanvills that came to England with William the Conqueror. All one needs to do is connect to it. Please check his page out before you go any further ...ladies.

Some I know the husbands of, most I don't. I couldn't find mention of a Richard Cock. That was a fairly prevalent name in Cornwall. I'm happy to send you details of some if you are interested, but it might be better if you could at least find where she was born to pin her down a bit better. Have you tried the Cornwall on-line site? They have an enormous amount of data from census & parish records, all free to view. Good hunting, Peggy.

My great-great grandmother was MaryAnn Cock (1855-1912) from Cornwall. In 1881 she was living in St. Ive. She married John Henry Lukey. Her death certificate lists her mother as Elizabeth Glanville and her father as Richard Cock. I don't have any birth or death dates for them as they were born and died in England. I don't know how to research any further on Elizabeth Glanville. I know this isn't much, but if you can make a connection, let me know.

Seeking assistance on the family listed below taken from the 1881 census that may offer some clues. Is there anyone with an earlier census (1861 - 1871) of Plymouth, Devon willing to do a search. mother: Glanville Elizabeth, b. abt. 1833, Plymouth Glanville children: Frank J., b. abt. 1859, Plymouth Charlie George, b. abt. 1860, Plymouth Fred T., b. abt. 1862, Plymouth Note: although Elizabeth is listed as the head and was not widowed, Mr. Glanville remains a mystery. Seeking information or assistance to uncover our family history. Unfortunately i cannot identify Alfred Charlie Glanville or his parents and siblings from the 1881 and 1991 British Census. What we do have is this! Name: Alfred Charlie Glanville Born: 21 July 1883 Place: 53 Dover Street, Southampton (married and died in Canada) Father: Charlie George Glanville Mother: Amy Kennedy Siblings: a sister May and two brothers (names unknown) Note: between 25 January 1902 and 1 August 1908 Alfred worked on mail ship to South Africa and Brazil and came to Canada in 1910. During this period he gave his address as 68 Church Road and Briar Glen, Obelisk Road, Woolston, Southampton. Present at Alfred's birth was an aunt of his mother namely Alice Kennedy who gives her residence as the Royal South Hants Infirmary, Southampton, possibly a nurse or aid! Welcome all inquiries, suggestions or assistance to unravel my mystery. Bill Golding Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan Canada

Unfortunately, I don't have anything on record re. a William born in Stoke Newington circa 1818. The Stoke Newington Glanvills are not a part of my research, and I picked up that will at random. However, I have found reference to a George Frederick Glanvill of Stoke Newington ("Stokey", as its known locally) who died some time before June 1859. Also, there were father and son Caleb Glanvills, descendants of Richard Glanvill (b. ca. 1728) of Cambdridge, who were merchants at the famous Blackwell Hall in the city of London in the 18th and 19th C. If this was a family name, your George Caleb could be a descendant of theirs.

I have just discovered where the Glanville part came in. Johanna GLAN(w)VIL, daughter of Richard GLANVILL of Camborne, Cornwall and Grace REED, married into the PRYOR family in 1813 in Phillack, Cornwall. I believe this Richard GLANVILL(E) was born in 1757, but the name was so common in the area at this time I am having trouble ging back any further. I'd love to hear from anyone with common ancestors.

Any help on this line much appreciated, Marta Could you please clarify how you know her year and place of birth, but not her parents? - normally one determines the date and place of birth from a baptismal record which also names at least the father. Was her "died in 1642" actually a burial record that gave her age? I don't have all my sources to hand, but did not Oliver and Petronell have a daughter (I don't know her name) baptised 2 Jun 1615 in Camborne? Jay
