I'll have to do some double checking and get back to you on this - but I have Thomas ABNEY Glanton born on November 12, 1868 to Thomas Lewis Glanton and Arvelia Persons in TROUP county. Thomas Lewis had previously been married to a Lucinda Kirk, who had died, and already had children by her. You can find the family on the 1870 GA Census in Heard County, #1200, and there Thomas A. is already a year old. There was also a Thomas Abner Glanton born in TROUP County on November 28, 1863 to John Hardy Glanton and Louisiana Logan Anderson - however, this man married a Roselle Cleveland. The name Abney comes from Thomas Abney Glanton's step grandfather. His grandfather and grand mother were John George Glanton and Harriet Hill. John George 'Jack' Glanton was killed in an 'accident' involving a slave and an axe in Meriwether County, GA, in 1837. This left Harriet Hill with two boys to raise, Thomas Lewis Glanton and his younger brother, John E. Glanton. Harriet remarried to a Martin Abney and on the 1850 Georgia Census for Heard County the two boys can be found living in the home of Martin Abney. John George Glanton was the son of John Thomas Glanton JR and Priscilla Holmes and was a younger of the Charles William Glanton SR that I am looking for info on. He and his brothers and the the two boys, Thomas Lewis and John E. Glanton, were all born in Edgefield County, SC. ALWAYS - any corrections or additions to my conclusions are welcome.
