Good morning Jill Thomas was indeed born in Glamorgan - Harris Court, Womanby Street in Cardiff, to William & Louisa. (I shall have to look at that tree in Ancestry that shows a birth in the USA). I have obtained his birth certificate, his parents' marriage etc, his own marriage - children. The discrepancy comes with his birth date as per his certificate - 25 November 1843 vs his baptismal date 19 November 1843 & thirdly with the date as it is written on his Application for his CC as 15 October 1842. All the certificates that I have are backed up by the very complete record from the time of his daughter's placement in the Muller Home after his death & that of his wife. These documents supply all living relatives names as well as those whose deaths were behind her being sent to the home - grandfather William amongst them. I am surprised that I had not noticed the dates before this. The Maritime University in Newfoundland has the crews' lists of the ship upon which he served pre-certification so I am hoping to glean something from those. And last night I discovered Certificates of Competency & the Applications on Ancestry, including those of the Master & First Mate who were in command when his ship went down in 1874. BoT Inquiry records appear to blame the Master for the wreck & Thomas' death & I have long been curious as to how they fared afterwards (the Master was suspended for a time) & the Mate (who also held a Master's Cert) was to be 'brought to the attention' of the hierarchy. Thomas' record is perhaps the most complete in my research thanks originally to Pat Sewell on the list, to the records held at Mullers & of course to a whole lot of Glamlist folks - Jeff, Bob & yourself among them. I have long intended to write about his adventures & now, with my first grandchild here, I have begun in earnest. Helen
