Hello, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am looking for information on my maternal Grandfathers family. His name was Harry STIDDER he was born in Glamorganshire Wales, immigrated alone to New Zealand in 1929 and died here in 1990. The information I have is from my mother and is quite sparce. I have been told that his birth was never registered in an oversight by the midwife who had 5 deliveries on the night. His Mother was born ELLEN JONES and married a HARRY JOHN STIDDER who was killed in WW1 in 1916 Ellen used to sing in the Music Halls in Cardiff post WW1 and remarried and EDWARD MORRISEY in 1937 (I have found the marriage record for this marriage). My Grandfather lists her as his next of kin on his NZ WW2 enlistment documents as Ellen Stidder of 66 Cowbridge Road, Glamorganshire, Wales and I have the address of 2 Redlavar Street, Cardiff as being her final residence until her death which was sometime around 1960. My Grandfather also correponded with an uncle in Wales EDWARD STIDDER who was still living when Ellen passed away but contact was then lost. There has also been mention of relations in England by the family name of GRIFFITH. I have searched through Ancestary UK the cencus and free BDM and public member records and apart from the marraige to Morrisey in 1937 cannot find matches for the Stidder men or Morrisey and there are so many Ellen Jones that without some proper dates it is a pointless search. Any recommendations on the best way forward would be greatly appreciated Sonya Raw
Sonya In Ancestry there is a 1911 census entry for an Edward Stidder (shown as ELWARD) age 30 living at 36 Newland Street, Barry Dock ... his profession is that of musician. His wife Gwendolin also 30 is a dancer ......... they are living with a Hopking (Hopkins) family. Given their professions & that of Ellen I wondered if there might be a connection.
