    3. Hello, I wrote to the list in May this year to seek help in finding the hymn music that accompanied the lyrics my grandmother SARAH THORNE wrote in 1913 for the Senghenydd disaster. I had no success in finding the music so I contacted the Senghenydd Heritage Centre asking if they would consider including her words as a reading during one of the events taking place during the centenary. To my delight they agreed and it is planned it will now be sung to a Welsh hymn at the Gymanfa Ganu Service on the 13th October. Further to this the Welsh singers and composers Dan and Laura Curtis who sing the Great American Songbook music asked if they could write new music for Sarahs hymn. The new music, which is beautiful, has now been recorded and is currently on YouTube (Prepare to Meet thy God). This talented couple have also written "A Miners Song" also on YouTube this is the Charity single to raise funds for the National Mining Memorial. Sarahs hymn with the new music will be performed at the Blackwood Miners Institute Concert on the 5th October 2013. I would just like to share with the GLA list this wonderful and exciting thing that has happened through doing Family History research. Best Wishes Cheryl Kettering. The following is a newspaper item printed after the Senghenydd Disaster: The memorial service for the victims of the Senghenydd disaster was conducted at the St Peters Chuch on Sunday evening when the sacred edifice was crowded. The sermon was delivered by the Rev, Campbell Davies, curate-in-charge. Among the hymns sang during the service was one composed by the Bishop of Durham and another by Mrs Thorne, of Abertridwr, both of which were composed after the disaster and relatives to the same. The dead march was also touchingly rendered. Mrs Sarah Ann Thorne was my grandmother, the hymn she composed was called, Prepare To Meet Thy God, the four verses were printed on sheets and sold for one penny. The proceeds of the sale went towards erecting a Memorial Plate. This Plate is still held at St Peters Senghenydd in memory of those who lost their lives in the explosion. I do not know what music was composed for the hymn, would the sheet music be held in an archive somewhere? As this year is the 100th anniversary of the Senghenydd disaster I would really like to trace it. Can the list help with this enquiry. Best wishes Cheryl Kettering. --
