Jeff thanks for this info its very helpful. When its all but impossible to physically visit the area the transcriptions are vital so its disappointing when they get them wrong - I know its not an easy task to transcribe etc but its a pity that having been told of the errors they have not amended them. I have previously reported to the list that there are some batches of register entries for parishes in Glamorgan and Monmouthshire which are shown on Findmypast incorrectly. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Swansea/ about the Church Records. There are errors on that page as well, I think, but the dates for which registers exist provide a good indication of when the 19th-century churches in Swansea were built. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Swansea/StJames/ says 1867. The Cambrian agrees RELIGION, ANGLICAN 26 July 1867 P5.FIRST BAPTISM & MARRIAGE SOLEMNIZED AT ST. JAMES'S CHURCH,FYNONE.PRESENTATIONS BY MAYOR. Jeff PS if you find a 19th-century marriage said by Findmypast to have been at Glantawe parish church, it was almost certainly at Llansamlet. There are also some marriages shown as St James's in Findmypast which were actually at St Peter's, Cockett, Swansea ----- Original Message ----- From: "susan ashton" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2013 11:10 AM Subject: [GLA] Howells and Walters Hi Chris there is a disagreement as to which church - familysearch has Swansea St James - Glamorgan FHS has Swansea St Mary - but info is as follows: married 25th October 1831 both of the parish she was a spinster, he a bachelor married by banns and both signed witnesses James Evans and William Davies hope this helps Sue ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, 16 June 2013, 8:00 Subject: GLAMORGAN Digest, Vol 8, Issue 209 To request change of Digest Format contact [email protected] and be patient. The marriage took place 25th October in 1831. The information is taken from a photo of a Parish record on an Ancestry tree, but the certificate doesn't state the name of the parish or church, the witnesses were William Davies and James Evans. It's likely Ann and John were from Swansea. They possibly had a son John born in 1837, and went to Australia at some stage where John senior died in 1885. His occupation was wheelwright. Thanks, Christine (Australia) on behalf of John and Ann's second Great Grandaughter, also in Australia.
