Hi Jill, Your previous note asked where Tyla Nant was in C-j-N. Now you have told us who was there and when, I can help a little. The description of the census district reads: "Neath Upper hamlet in Cadoxton parish. The whole of the hamlet of Neath higher including Lamb & Flag and Maesmeling villages." [Maesmelyn or Maesmelin are the usual spelling] Lamb & Flag is a pub in Glynneath and is marked on the Google map of the village. Jenkin and Elizabeth Jones are at schedule 102. Tyla nant seems to be a single property in the street, Tai yn yr heol. at schedule 96 is the Dinas Rock Inn , and before that Vaughan's Terrace. Dinas Rock Inn has been discussed previously on this list. See http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GLAMORGAN/2002-01/1010142742 If you put 'Dinas Rock, Glynneath' into Google maps it shows it situated on the High St., between the A4109 and A465. However, the archived note indicates there may have been another of the same name in Pontneddfechan. Dinas Rock itself is a well known feature in the waterfalls district. See http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/recreation.nsf/LUWebDocsByKey/WalesMerthyrTydfilBreconBeaconsNationalParkForestsWaterfallsDinasRock Browsing the other way through the 1851 census, 111 is Cefn John and 112 Abernant fach. The latetr has also been discussed previously, see archived message http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GLAMORGAN/2006-01/1136987603 which also gives you a ling to abernant fach on the old maps web site, and puts it close to modern Lancaster Close, Glynneath. The coordinates given just show Dinas Rock Inn on the Eastern edge, so Tyla Nant would seem to be somewhere between the two. Hope that helps, Dai On 10/06/2013 18:39, Jill Muir wrote: > I have just discovered, if my findings are correct though pretty certain > that they are, that not only do I have a John James JONES who married a Mary > JONES, they at one time of Merthyr Tydfil, and a John JONES of Cadoxton > Juxta Neath. > > I have just found his brother Jenkin JONES who married another JONES - being > Elizabeth JONES both of Cadoxton juxta Neath. > > Oh bother the Jones!
