    3. Hi Graham I've had a look for these families, mainly on Ancestry. Percy Anderson ROGERS (1876-1907) was the son of John ROGERS (c1840-) and his wife Margaret Ellen (c1844-). According to census returns, John was born in Buttington, Montgomeryshire, and Percy was born in Bersham, Denbighshire. Florence Mary PERKINS (1876-) was the daughter of Edwin PERKINS (c1842-) and his wife Jane Eliza C (c1843-). According to census returns, Florence was born in Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. Edwin was born in Hereford, Herefordshire. His wife Jane was a British Subject, born in France. According to a public member tree on ancestry, she was Jane Eliza Clementine BECKINGHAM. Robert ROGERS (c1850-) was the son of William ROGERS (c1808-) and his wife Martha (c1818-). According to census returns, Robert and his father were both born in Brymbo, Denbighshire. Margaret was born in Hope, Flintshire. I can't see any connection between the families of Robert ROGERS and Percy Anderson ROGERS. In 1911 there is an 8 year old Frank Anderson ROGERS in the household of Edwin PERKINS, father of Florence Mary PERKINS/ROGERS. Frank's age is transcribed as 51 - I have to admit that the 8 is written in such a way that it does look like 51. It isn't the only transcription error for this household on Ancestry. The household is added to the previous entry, suggesting that the Head is a William OWENSH, at 15 Cuncliffe St, Wrexham. Edwin PERKINS, at 16 Cuncliffe St, is described as Father instead of Head. Frank is described as the grandson of the Head. Frank's place of birth is given as Wrexham (Esclusham, according to the transcription). According to Freebmd, the births of both Linda Rosella ROGERS and Frank Anderson ROGERS were registered in the Jul-Sep qtr of 1902 in the Wrexham district, but on different pages. I found the death of Frank Anderson ROGERS on Ancestry, registered in 1989. His date of birth is given as 1st July 1902. The death entry for Linda Rosella ROBBINS, in 1972, gives her date of birth as 4th June 1902. A public member tree on Ancestry, one of two named 'Parry Family Tree', has a Linda ROGERS born in 1902. Her spouse is given as Luther ROBBINS. Linda's mother is shown as Letitia Catherine ROGERS (1879-1947). No father is named. Letitia is a daughter of Robert ROGERS and his wife Martha. This would explain why Linda was in their household in 1911. This tree does seem to be reliable, showing dates which have probably come from certificates or written family evidence. There are also photos of some family members - not Linda or Letitia. The most likely entry for Luther George ROBBINS in 1911 is that of George, the 9 year old son of Frederick and Sarah ROBBINS living at 11 James St, Mountain Ash, Glamorgan. Freebmd doesn't show a Births entry for a child with the first name of George, surname of ROBINS or ROBBINS, between 1895 and 1905 in the Pontypridd district. Frederick Charles ROBBINS married Sarah Elizabeth HUNTLEY in Pontypridd in 1890 (Freebmd). Sarah was almost certainly the daughter of Charles HUNTLEY and his wife Caroline ROBINS. One of their sons was named Luther. It could be worth checking these families. Are you sure that Linda Rosella ROGERS was the daughter of Percy Anderson ROGERS and Florence Mary PERKINS? Are you mainly researching the ROBBINS family or the ROGERS family? I can send you reference numbers for any of the above, off-list, if you'd like them. Sorry if I've added to your conundrum!! Regards Ann -----Original Message----- From: Graham Price Sent: Saturday, June 15, 2013 5:49 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [GLA] ROBBINS & ROGERS, Pontypridd/Fylde, Lancs. Hi all I have a little conundrum.... don't we all? I have one Linda Rosella Rogers, born Wrexham district 1902, Denbighshire, Sep Qtr, 11b 265, daughter of Percy Anderson Rogers & Florence Mary Perkins of 44 Rhossdu Rd, Wrexham, and the only Linda Rogers shown in civil registration to have been born between 1900-1904 (except for one Linda Sarah Rogers born Suffolk 1902). Okay, so now I find a marriage (and again the only marriage - and no early deaths prior) of one Linda Rosella Rogers to Luther G (George) Robbins, Pontypridd district Sep Qtr 1922, 11a 1471. At this stage I am being cautious as marriage certificates are expensive. The 1911 census on FMP shows only one Linda Rogers who fits, living Glamorganshire, Pontypridd, sub-district Llanwanno, 207 Penrhiwceiber Road, with head of family Robert Rogers, coal miner hewer 61 & Martha Rogers 62. Linda is not shown to have any relationship with the above-mentioned, but is born 1902 Denbighshire, Brymbo (near Wrexham). This certainly fits, but what she is doing in Glamorganshire is anyone's guess. The deaths of Linda Rosella Robbins (nee Rogers) and Luther George Robbins are found in the Fylde district of Lancashire 1972 and 1970 with correct ages re. birth dates. There are three possible children to this couple (taken from registration) Robert E, Pontypridd 1924; Dilys, Pontypridd 1929 and Gwyneth 1935, Pontypridd. I cannot locate Luther George Robbins on the 1911 census (FMP) but perhaps he is mistranscribed and may well be on Ancestry.com. I have a strong feeling about this Linda Rosella Rogers. Does anyone think I am on the right track? Robert Rogers and his wife Martha were living at Brymbo (nr. Wrexham) in the 1901 census and though it would be stretching the imagination way out of beam, I have a Martha (maiden name also Rogers, so far not found a marriage) born same year as this Martha, who could be great aunt to Linda Rosella. Hmmm, interesting. May be just a coincidence. Any thoughts or help graciously accepted. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz

    3. Hello Ann It nearly always takes two heads to sort things out 8-). Thanks for that. The earlier Rogers etc. of Welshpool and Buttington I have sorted according to census data and original parish registers - the Rogers of Wrexham have been a tad more difficult. I have come to the conclusion that Linda Rosella Rogers is where she belongs, with her probable mum Letitia Catherine Rogers and therefore does not belong to me. What initially had me puzzled and commenced leading me down the other pathway, was a newspaper obituary in the Wrexham Leader 1918 where Mrs Rogers, sister-in-law, and niece Linda were mentioned. And, there was only one Linda Rogers born in the district, i.e. Linda Rosella Rogers. Of course, journalists get it wrong sometimes as we readers do also. What appears to be more fitting now, after reading your input, is that the Mrs. Rogers at the funeral was really Mary Ellen Rogers from Australia, visiting, with her daughter Olinda who was born 1897. Journo obviously heard the Linda part of the name and transcribed it as such. So, not only can we not trust all census data, but newspaper reports as well. Makes for interesting searches! Thanks for taking the time to go back into earlier generations because that shows you care very much about genealogy. I had not gone further back on the Perkins line (leaving that for future research) apart from having Edwin as father-in-law to Percy, and who is also shown as Edgar in other records, so you have delighted me with the disclosure of one Frank Anderson Rogers, grand-son of Edwin. I have looked at the 1911 on FMP, which is very clear as no doubt the image on Ancestry is. It would appear that Frank is the son of Percy Anderson & Florence Mary Rogers nee Perkins - so, really missing from my tree as such. So, that looks like a win, thanks to you. I may have to invest in a certificate of birth. He may well have married a Prudence Hawkins in 1932 at Wrexham, so there is something further for me to follow up. Thanks again Ann Best wishes Graham Melbourne Oz At 09:38 AM 22/06/2013, Ann Ward wrote: >Hi Graham > > >I've had a look for these families, mainly on Ancestry. > >Percy Anderson ROGERS (1876-1907) was the son of John ROGERS >(c1840-) and his wife Margaret Ellen (c1844-).
