    3. Some old letters that my late auntie Lena gave me way back in 1981 kick-started my Research in to the past. These two old letters were written by my Grandfather's Auntie Minnie.[1861-1943] She being Minnie WHITE. I think they called her Minnie because she was so small. Anyway the second letter she wrote was dated 27th;of January 1916. In the thick end of W.W.I; It is from "Ivydene",487 Gloucester Road, Horfield,Bristol. [Today,a member of my Mum's family  is still there]   Auntie Minnie writes about this terrible war.The letter's were addressed to my Grandfather George Harry Edward WHITE,[1876-1936] Sh mentions your Cousins are all in the Army.   Some of them she names like:-   "Your Uncle Charlie JENNINGS three sons have joined the Lord Derby Group.   Also mentioned is my Grandfather's Cousin Bert WHITE,who is his Uncle Ted;s son.   She also says" I suppose you heard that your Uncle Willie YEOMAN's only son was killed in action." and adds:- Your late Uncle Walter's son is on H.M.A.S;Australia somewhere in the North Sea. He has come to see us twice and hopes to come again in the near future.   Now the last part I found out a good deal from that little mention of  H.M.A.S;Australia.   This ship was a Heavy Cruiser,of the Australian Navy.   Uncle Walter's son was Leslie WHITE who was a Taxi Driver in Melbourne, and was killed in an accident when he was only in his 30's.   The letter also enabled me to connect to some Second and third Cousin's all living in Melbourne. One of them being a Retired Photographer, who sent me a large folder of old Photograph's of my Family on my Mother's side. These were the WHITE Family of Bristol. These old Photograph's together with much Family History were deposited in Bristol Records Office back in the 1980's by a Mrs Dorothy YOUNG. Her mother collected them over the years. Her mother being Mrs;Clara WALL who lived to 101,and died in Bristol in 1953. Her Husband being the Shoemaker/Poet of Bristol. He was John William Henry WALL,and there's  a Plaque of him on the corner of a Bristol Street. Clara WALL,nee WHITE was my Great,Grandfather's Sister. Willie YEOMAN's above, was a relative of my Great,Grandmother Amy Kate WHITE, nee YEOMAN.[1856-1897] So lots can be learnt from a couple of old letters. These by the way were written in Pencil. Cheers Graham. Graham Williams, Glam;FHS# 551. of Canton,Cardiff.
