I have debating whether and how to tell this story, but part of this mystery fits right into the age discrepancy, so here it is. I am not exactly asking for help because I don't know what to ask. my gr grandfather James Shea was born in Kerry about 1842 (1861 census), lived in Glamorgan, married Catherine O'Neil in 1864 and had one daughter Margaret Mary in 1865. Catherine died in1870. Margaret, the daughter, shows up in 1871 and 1881 censuses with maternal uncles (one in fact reported the death of James' wife,Catherine. But I can find no other obvious mention of James. In 1884 Margaret Shea went to New Haven, CT with various uncles and aunts, both maternal and paternal. Another researcher believes that her gr grandfather is the same James Shea, who remarried a Mary Quirk in Dowlais in 1875. They had many children, the first of whom was Margaret Mary ( who only lived about a year). Ultimately, this "second" family went to Yorkshire, England. This James Shea (the same or not) gave his birth as about 1850-54. Both James' gave as their job " iron wheeler". However, another discrepancy is that "my" James Shea said his father's name was Bartholomew at the time of his marriage and the second one listed his father as Michael. This other person says she thinks her family now is trying to cover some secret and that they feel their James was older than he gave people to believe. Unfortunately I have not found any James Shea in 1871. So, I don't know what to think. I am not really asking for help, partly because I have tried to make this succinct and may have left out information. if it is the same James Shea then he seems to have lowered his age, which was what got me going here in the first place. Sue
