As the whole family were Anglican, and the service was conducted by an Anglican clergyman, I assume that the "chapel" in question is the church of St John the Baptist in Dyffryn Road, Alltwen. The Googlemap of the area suggests that the building is now in private hands, and I'm not sure from the satellite view whether there are, or were, any gravestones. Can anyone with local knowledge help? ==================== Dear Anna, I've not visited St John's at Alltwen for 15 years, but I do not recall any burial ground around it. However, there was (and is) an extensive burial yard behind Alltwen Independent Chapel. As you say, Google's satellite and StreetView images strongly suggest that St John's is now a private residence and has been so at least since October 2008, the date of the StreetView images. Puzzlingly however, the BBC website holds an article describing a funeral at "St John's Church, Alltwen" dated September 2011: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-15031547 "About 150 mourners were inside St John's Church, Alltwen, and another 250 gathered outside as the service was relayed by loud speakers." There are photos of St John's Church and Alltwen Chapel, dated July 1998, in the 'Images of Wales Webpage Archive' on my website: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/walespic/archive/980715.htm Alltwen Chapel is also included in my 'Welsh Churches and Chapels Collection': http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/walespic/churches/alltwen1.htm Kind regards, John -------------------- John Ball, Brecon, Mid-Wales, UK E-mail: [email protected] Personal Homepage: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk Images of Wales: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/walespic/ Welsh Family History Archive: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/wales/ Joint Webmaster, Breconshire Local & Family History Society http://www.blfhs.co.uk/ GENUKI Breconshire Maintainer: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/ Administrator - Powys (& BRE/MGY/RAD) RootsWeb mailing lists
