Hello List. I have found an interesting entry on 1911 Census for 30 Wyndham Crescent, Aberamman, Aberdare. A Gwladys Ruby Edwards a visitor who was a professional singer was staying at this address, The head of the house was Peter Williams a railway signal man. My grandmother was also in the household as a general servant aged 36 years Her name was Mary Anne Morris single of New Moat Pembrokeshire. Was Gwladys Ruby Edwards the singer well know in Aberamman area at the time? I should be very grateful for any info. Also, she was born in Adelaide Australia, but of course her name was Welsh. Yvonne, A brief summary of Gwladys Ruby Edwards from the State Library of Western Australia: http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/pdf/mn/mn2501_3000/mn2802.pdf EDWARDS, Gwladys Gwladys Edwards was born in South Australia in 1887, and when she was very young her parents moved to Western Australia. She studied music at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Royal College of Music in London. Around 1909, Madame Melba gave her a letter of introduction to her former instructress, Madame Marchesi of Paris. Gwladys later toured England and Australia. Many thanks Dai for your extremely interesting reply re Gwladys Ruby Edwards the professional singer. I am very grateful. She may possibly be a relation to the members of the household of Peter Wwilliams Railway Signalman at Wyndham Crescent Aberamman. I shall research further.
