Thought I'd try one last time to find the parents of the subject. Per the 1881 census he was born in Merthyr. He married Caroline Jones in Llanwonno on 10 Feb 1873. According to the marriage license his father was William Jones, Laborer. I tried ordering a birth certificate giving the date of birth, but that didn't work out. I've tried searching the 1861 and 1871 census but not having much luck at that. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1882.
