    3. Was the Swansea Union a workhouse? If so can anyone find the birth of Samuel Andrews(or Parker) born July 1855. ( I have a birth certficate with this information) Father listed as Samuel Andrews (Baker Journeyman) - Mother Ellen Andrews (formerly Parker). If I have the right couple they left two children in the Bideford Workhouse,Devon. Appreciate any help you can give me. Ellen may have given a false name, Samuel Andrews was married to Eliza Parker Regards Daphne

    3. Hi Daphne If Samuel's birth certificate gives Swansea Union as place of birth then yes, it is the workhouse. Swansea Workhouse records are at West Glamorgan Archives - see http://www3.swansea.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=US&pos=4 I'm not sure whether there would be any mention of Samuel or his family in these records - the inmate registers don't start until 1858, but there might be references elsewhere. Probably best to speak direct to the staff at Swansea Archives.
