hello, could someone please tell me the names of one or two simple Welsh songs to sing. I nearly have the hang of Si hei lwli 'mabi and Suo gan. Thanks. cheerio Irene
The first Welsh song my daughter learnt at infant school was 'Mi welais jac y do' (literally 'I saw a jackdaw'). It can be an action song. This seems to be well represented on the internet, youtube etc. e.g. http://www.meucymru.co.uk/music/harps/alawteln/jacydo.htm I suspect this is a genuine Welsh song in origin, whereas a lot of the Welsh nursery songs are obvious translations from English. The curious thing is that the third line seems different to that used locally, so maybe there are different traditions. Once you start looking for it you start to find all sorts of Welsh songs, some clearly modern derivatives. Hello, Some of the first songs I learned included Calon Lan, Sospan Fach, Oes Gafr Eto?, Ar Lan a Mor, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (of course!), Milgi, Milgi, Y Mochyn Du, Mi Llanfiangel Heb Dim Dur, Fflat Huw Puw, Lisa Lan, and Yma o Hyd. You should be able toiling lyrics and you tubes of all them. Go luck and have fun! Mona
