Thanks Sue, I am on the Devon list and fortunately have traced my paternal line in Devon back to 1574. The problem I and a fellow researcher have is finding more information on John Jones, Coedmawr , Gwynfil who died around 1800. He left a will in which he states that he purchased the properties from John Edwards , Abermeurig, but no date . I spent a day at NLW going through Abermeurig papers hoping to find some reference to the sale of Coedmawr and related properties to John Jones of ? but there was nothing. There are very few deaths of JJ's in Llandewibrefi and surrounds around this time. I did follow a JJ Rhiwhalog who owned land in LDB and died around the same time (though in the wrong parish) in the hope that our JJ may have retired there and especially as there were lead mines in the area - JJ must have made money somewhere to buy Coedmawr . This proved a dead end. Francis Jones refers to a Jones family at Coedmawr at an earlier date but we have been unable to establish a link - they could have been tenants of Abermeurig before a later generation purchased the property. We have looked at several Jones wills and pedigrees in the hope of something popping up and are now trying to systematically go through any document which may contain information of use- I think it used to be called clutching at straws! My eyes lit up when I saw that David Jones, Wallington had made abstracts of all wills ( though some of his work is now missing) and also constructed pedigrees as this could be a quick way of eliminating some wills and concentrating on the ones likely to yield fruit , especially if some of these wills are no longer available elsewhere and they are very difficult for me to read. Similarly, there are other pedigrees constructed by individuals in the 1800's which are in various archives which could give us some clues. As I do not have the skills to organise an indexing project , I was hoping some organisation like an FHS would consider the project particularly as one of the kind people who replied says the DJ manuscripts are not in very good condition and even photocopying them would be a help in preserving this unique source. Thanks for your interest. My aim was to make more people aware of this resource and hopefully create some interest in putting the information on a searchable database as like Graham, a lot of us are unable to visit Cardiff or NLW on a regular basis . Bob's reply to the Glam list has confirmed it is an excellent source and Jeff's reply to Dyfed has pointed out that some wills abstracted by David Jones can no longer be located, so even more important that this information is made more widely available . Also as I pointed out , the MI's were done many years ago so could very well contain information which was lost before the excellent work on MI indexing. My computer skills are limited but I do know enough to realise that it is possible to put the will abstracts and the MI's on a searchable database without too much hassle which would save us all a lot of effort in the future. The wills on line at NLW are a very useful source but can be difficult to read particularly if your eyesight is getting worse like mine. Having spent many days trying to read older wills only to find there is no possible connection to my family , I would appreciate a searchable database which would narrow down the number of wills I have to try and decipher. Similarly, pedigrees constructed by individuals in the distant past can give us valuable pointers of where to look next. I appreciate they may not be accurate but there is often a very limited amount of material available pre 1800 so these can be a very good starting point. A searchable database of all the old pedigrees could be very useful. I appreciate there is lot of work involved and would be very happy to help.
