Hello David The obvious part of the placename is pont meaning bridge. Cyllan could be hazel (even the name of a person) and FIENGIG not too sure about. Hazelbridge, FIENGIG could be frengig for french Gareth --- On Wed, 4/5/11, defletchercg@aol.com <defletchercg@aol.com> wrote: Hi Everyone I have a birth certificate which shows the birth place as PONTYGYLLAN FIENGIG - I am not sure if there should be a space between the N and the F. The Registration District is Cardiff and the Sub-district is Caerphilly. The Census records indicate the birth place as EGLWYSILAN in Glamorgan. Can anyone identify these places and advise if they are one and the same place, Ponty... is a suburb or street in Egl.... or are they two completely places with no connection. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. David Fletcher
