    1. [GLA] Place names
    2. Hi Everyone I have a birth certificate which shows the birth place as PONTYGYLLAN FIENGIG - I am not sure if there should be a space between the N and the F. The Registration District is Cardiff and the Sub-district is Caerphilly. The Census records indicate the birth place as EGLWYSILAN in Glamorgan. Can anyone identify these places and advise if they are one and the same place, Ponty... is a suburb or street in Egl.... or are they two completely places with no connection. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. David Fletcher

    3. Hello, David, this is quite a coincidence. My 3rd great grandmother, Margaret (Watkins) FRANCIS, born about 1793 in Glamorgan, Wales, died 23 August 1848. Her death record showed the place of death as (what I interpreted as) Pontygyllan Frengig, Eglwysilan. She was the wife of Richard FRANCIS, aka FRANK. They were living on a farm at Wenallt Uchaf in what is now Whitchurch. I was unable to find anyone who recognized Pontygyllan Frengig several years ago when I obtained the death certificate.
