It is amazing what you find in strange places. This is from the Manor documents for the Manor of Usk Monmouthshire that I am currently transcribing and I thought it might be useful to others. I can complete if anyone is researching this family. 5 June 1746 To this Court came William RICHARDS of the City of Bristol Gent Son and Customary heir of William RICHARDS late of the Town of Swansey [Swansea] in the County of Glamorgan Gent' deceased in his own proper person, and Surrendered into the hands of the said Manor by acceptance of his said Deputy Steward All and Singular his Customary hold Messuages Lands tenements and hereditaments with their and every of their appurtenances Situate Lying and being in the parish of Langwn Ycha in the County of Monmouth within the Man'r aforesaid And the Revertion and Revertions Remainder and Remainders of all and Singular the said Customary hold Messuages Lands and tenements with the appurts To the use and behoof of Philip MORGAN of the Town of Usk in the County of Monmouth Gent' his heires.................................... http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Llangwm/index.html is about Llangwm Ucha parish See also http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~familyalbum/klangwms.htm where there are two MORGAN farmers. The Duke of Beaufort was Lord of the Manor, and also held/holds very significant land rights in the Swansea area. It is not obvious why a Swansea family should have held land in the Usk area, unless by inheritance. The Will of William Richards, Mercer of Swansea, Glamorgan Date 08 February 1731 is available online ( for a price) at the National Archives in the Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury which may well have meant that he owned property in more than one county, or in more than one diocese.
