Hi I'm doing some research for my daughter in law, one of her ancestors was a Bateman Jones born around the Kenfig Hill area c 1848 . I have some details of him taken from the censuses from 1881 onwards and his marriage record to an Anne Jones in 1868 in Bridgend . Despite browsing throgh all the other censuses previous to 1881 ,I just can't find him .On the 1881 census he's listed as Beatman but still no joy using this name and other variants of Bateman . Neither can I find a record of his birth. Before I go down the line of purchasing a marriage certificate for him ,I wondered if some kind person would have any records at their disposal that would show who his parents were etc. Thanks regards, Buddug Hollett
