Hello All, Anything with an Irish connection grabs my attention. I'm not 100% on this but I did see an Edward Savage in Newport 1861 ( son of Timothy Savage and probably Ellen Flynn) I cant find them in 1871 but in 1851 something comes up which is interesting. I have a Gx1 Grandmother from Co Meath and I know Savage isn't a name that crops up too often in this part of Ireland Co's Cork & Kerry etc where most came from that appear along the South Wales coast line. In 1861 I see a Timothy Surgrue and Ellen in St Woolo's Newport and it's a shot in the dark was the name changed at some stage? It's recorded as Sayan / Savage but it's definitely Surgrue. Believe me if you were in South Co Kerry now and asked a person their surname (Surgrue) you'd be lost.........down there as i west Cork the S can be prounounced as "Sh". Perhaps someone can put me straight.
