Hi Jill David is certainly elusive. I found a David Owens age 6 in the 1891 census with parents and siblings. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/lac-bac/image/anc/1003_559147?exact_match=on&id=1003_559147&format=html&SearchInText_1=owens%2C+david&FormName=Ancestors+Simple+Search&Sources=genapp&soundex=on&ResultCount=15&sortLimit=1000&MaxDocs=-1 I didn't find a David or a Middleton Owen[s] at all in the 1901 or 1911 but did find Richard Owens and family in both. Look in the website automated genealogy which covers both census and you can look at the original pages in conjunction with the transcript. I'm not familiar with searching in New Brunswick or Quebec province but am willing to scrounge around if you want further help.
