I've now moved north to AGY in my extractions, I think this one below gives an interesting slant on competition between the established church and non-conformists. It is a fact that the 30 March numbers for this church were roughly halved against the average. The figures are incomplete but the main beneficiary may have been the local Calvinistic Methodist chapel which had 300 in the morning and 600 in the evening. I wonder how they were 'induced' ? * Amlwch Parish Church (Diocese of Bangor) Rebuilt in 1796 in place of the old one Attendance - (average) morning 130 + 39 scholars, afternoon 54 + 20 scholars, evening 180 + 16 scholars "The estimated number of attendants March 30 1851 was considerably below the usual average as the people were induced by the Dissenters to go on that day to the different chapels. I took no step to fill my Church on that day" Morris Williams, Perpetual Curate Gareth Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html Cwmgors/Waun http://www.tytwp.plus.com/Waun/Waun.html
