A comment in CAE which whilst indicating the 'hatch, match and despatch' customs in this parish does the Calvinists a dis-service with the 'very few Dissenters ' remark since the parish population was only 456 and the CMs had an average of 300 at their evening services - against the Church's own much smaller numbers. * Tydweiliog Chapel of Ease with Llangwnadle Attendance - average - morning 40 + 30 scholars Services in Welsh "There are very few Dissenters in this Parish. Hi Gareth I think the curate was using the term "dissenters" to refer to the demonations which stemmed from the C17 puritans - in a Welsh context, mainly baptists and congregationalists (ie annibynwyr). Historically, the Calvinistic Methodists broke away from the Anglican church rather than evolving from the dissenters. The Anglican clergy often referred to the CMs as enthusiasts, as in "..there are no enthusiasts in our parish".
