Can someone tell me if EGLWYSILAN in the Glamorganshire is near MERTHYR and what denomination is St Illan. My Davies/ Lewis clan seem to be from the Merthyr and Dowlais area I ham seeking my Davies ancestry and have come upon the surname VAUGHAN it was carried on in my 3xgrandmother,also her daughter using it as a middle name like ELIZABETH VAUGHAN,AND HANNAH VAUGHAN LEWIS. Hello Dianne Try typing the place on google for a map. St Illan is the established church. Church of England then, now Church of Wales. It is a fair distance from Merthyr but back then a good days walk on the mountain top never killed anyone. I have a Sarah Vaughan married Evan Edwards in 1865.
