WESTERN MAIL FRIDAY DECEMBER 10. 1926.   No. 318. CARDIFF MINISTER'S 80th BIRTHDAY.   The Rev. William HARRIES, of Clare-street, Cardiff, celebrates his eightieth birthday this week. Born at Llandeloy, Pembrokeshire, he was trained for the Baptist ministry at Haverfordwest College, and held pastrorates at Marloes and Sandy Hill, Saundersfoot, Maesteg, and Cardiff, and for the past nineteen years has been the Nonconformist chaplain at the City and Ely Lodges.    He was also for many years the financial secretary of the Baptist College. Mr. HARRIES is hale and hearty, attends to his duties as well as those of the chaplaincy at the Whitchurch Mental Hospital. LORRY OVER BRINK OF MOUNTAIN.   While travelling in a motor-lorry over the Black Mountain from Brynamman to Llangaddock, Mr. Marshall MORRIS, of Penybank, Ammanford, met with an alarming accident.   He was accompanied by his man, Owen REES, and, after they had passed a hair-pin bend and were going down the road on the Gwynfi side, the vehicle dashed over the brink and down the steep mountainside for a distance of 30 to 40 yards, where it still remains.   Both men were able to jump clear and escaped injury, and the lorry was not damaged. HUISH and her pupils, the Beaufort Magnets, gave a charity programme at the Market-hall, Brynamman, in aid of the Town Relief Fund. FRAUD CHARGE FAILS-Cardiff Travellers Who Ordered A Car. Without calling on the defence, the Cardiff magistrates on Thursday dismissed a charge against Henry FARMER, traveller, Cardiff, of obtaining by false pretences a motor-car, valued at £160, the property of the A. T. MORSE Automobile Company (Limited), Charles-street, Cardiff, with the intent to defraud. Mr. Charles HARDWICKE prosecuted, and Mr. Harold LLOYD appeared for the defence.   Arthur Thomas MORSE, 35, Stacey-road, Cardiff, managing director of Morse's Automobile Company, told the court that FARMER showed him a business card of the Wholesale Fittings Company (Limited), Bristol, and ordered a two-seater on behalf of his company. He was told that the car would be released when the cheque was received, but he was lent a car in the meantime.   Some days later FARMER produced a letter, which he doubled up, and the witness read a sentence which ran "Regarding the car, there will probably be a dely of a day or two before the cheque is forwarded." The letter convinced witness, and he made out a receiving paper for the car, which FARMER signed on behalf of the Wholesale Fittings Company, and took the car away. As the cheque did not arrive witness wrote to the Wholesale Fittings Company, and, later, saw the managing director when as a result of what he said, a warrant was applied for.   The case was dismissed as stated.
