    3. Hello Sheila, I have searched the Glamorgan Marriage Index for you, and of course come up with exactly what you have given here. To obtain further information, you would have to either search or have a search done for you of the Parish Register at the West Glamorgan Record Office or purchase the Parish Register from the Glamorgan FHS. 3. Normally the father's name does not appear on marriage entries in the early 1800s. I looked at the facsimile of this entry at West Glamorgan Archives. The marriage was after banns, conducted by the Curate, Both Bride and Groom made a mark, rather than signing. The witnesses, who both signed, were Henry ROBERT and Jane FRANCIS. At the top of the page 'both of this parish' had been corrected to 'both of this town'. This also seemed to be the case for some of the other entries on the page, so may not have had significance. It is possible that one or other lived in the parish of St John juxta Swansea, or this may simply have been something to do with the unusual situation of St Mary's as a town church, which at the time seems to have had a formal relationship with the town council. I don't know whether you have explored the 'Cambrian Index' at www.swansea.gov.uk/cambrian There are a large number of entries for ELLERY (623) including one dated 1849 where Hannah ELLERY age 72 is mentioned, mother of Jane ELLERY. There is also a record of the death of a William ELLERY at Scutari hospital during the Crimean War. Another ELLERY died in Cuba. A lot of the entries are about J.M.ELLERY, auctioneer, but there also seems to have been people of that name who were in a number of other occupations, including a master mariner and a gasworks manager. A number of others appeared in court for various reasons.
