I'm trying so hard to find out where in Ireland my g-grandparents lived before they arrived in Wales. Is there a list of ship's arrivals from Ireland to Wales? I haven't found anything like that online. James Clifford and his wife Mary Ellen (Corbitt or Corbett) were married in Methryr Tydfil in 1855. I have sent for their marriage certificate and am waiting to receive it. In hopes that it lists where they came from. Now I'm wondering if there is an immigration record or ship's record that shows them arriving in Wales from Ireland. Any ideas? Nancy Clifford R.
Highly unlikely, it wasn't an emigration as such it was moving from New York to Pennsylvania or Wiltshire to Bristol. Passengerlists weren't kept. Hello Nancy Most of us with Irish in Wales ancestors have or have had a similar problem. I was lucky with one of mine that eventually he entered Waterford as his birthplace on a census record and that led me to his parents through the naming pattern of oldest son after the paternal Grandfather. I finally figured out where his wife was from when her mother came to live with them, another census record with birth county. Another route to try is to see if you can find out where those who witnessed their marriage were from - could be relatives or friends from back home. Many of the Irish who came to Wales in that time frame came as virtual ballast in the ships. No records kept of passage at all. HOpe this is of some help. Don't give up!
