A distant cousin had some more information about an ancestor who followed this occupation. She used the mangle to partly dry clothes for neighbours after they had done their washing, in return for a small payment. I believe she kept the mangle outside her house and customers brought their wet washing to be mangled. It always seems to be a female occupation, although usually older married women or widows. Ian.
