Hi Does anyone know how far Ancestry have got with transcribing the 1911 census, please? Are they starting from scratch or are they buying the 1911 census used by Findmypast? Two of my families are not listed on the Findmypast census. I have located one as I knew the address & Kew found out that that house number had not been photographed therefore it was not on the census. The other family Dinah aged 20 years & John Rees aged 25 years were married in Merthyr Tydfil in 1901. The family state that they went to the Rhondda where John Rees came from so I do not know the address or the town. All the best Heather
Heather Please give us as much info that you have, birth and place, and see if others can search the1911 on Findmypast....my Grandmother Mary Anna was listed as Hannah..... Are they starting from scratch or are they buying the 1911 > census used by Findmypast? Ancestry have bought a licence from The National Archives, not FindMyPast, so they are doing their own index. They already have the enumerator's summary books which, if you know the head of household, you'll be able to use to find the family. The images are there so it'll a case of trawling through those at the moment. > Two of my families are not listed on the Findmypast census. The name has probably been mangled. Try looking for a member of the family by given name only and year of birth. Don't give too much detail or be too precise. Little is more. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/
The Ancestry What's New has this, it implies they are doing their own transcription. "We've already started transcribing the records so we can make them fully searchable as quickly as possible. We'll keep you updated on our progress and give you further release dates are soon as we can." http://www.ancestry.co.uk/home/new.aspx Martin Briscoe Fort William martin@mbriscoe.me.uk -----Original Message----- From: glamorgan-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:glamorgan-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Heather Smith Sent: 18 June 2011 17:00 To: glamorgan@rootsweb.com Subject: [GLA] Ancestry.uk 1911 census Hi Does anyone know how far Ancestry have got with transcribing the 1911 census, please?
