Hi I am still looking for my family of John JONES and Sarah JONES nee REES. I have a headstone for these folks sent to me by a group member that Says they both died with their daughter also Sarah JONES age 5 in 1866. I then decided to look for them on the 1861 census. The headstone says they are from Blackpill which I'm guessing is part of Swansea. Correct me if I'm wrong please. I am having no luck in finding any of them on the 1861 census and wondered if someone might also Check for me please. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Regards Karen.

Hi Karen I realise that you have lost a lot of your data because of failure of a computer that was not backed up. You will recall that I sent you details of this family in 1861 census on 1st March this year, as in this archive message to the list. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GLAMORGAN/2011-03/1299015782 You can of course recover all the messages about this family from the Browser of list messages by looking at the early days of March 2011. You recall that the gravestone is in a prominent place in the graveyard of Bethel Welsh Independent chapel, Carnglas Road, Sketty. The minister of that chapel at the time lived in Lower Sketty and in the 1861 census was quite a close neighbour of the JONES family. The JONES family were schedule 17 on page8 folio 38 of RG9/4107 and Lewis DAVIES, Independent Minister, of a similar age to John JONES, was in schedule 19 on the very next page, though in a much more up-market household with 5 servants living in, while John JONES was simply a labourer. Blackpill is the location where the Clyne river enters Swansea Bay, on the western side of the river. Lower Sketty was only a hundred yards or so on the East side of the river ( which is not a large one), so presumably Reed Fach (Rhyd fach, meaning small ford) where the JONES family were in 1861 was also close to the same area. The river was the boundary between Oystermouth parish on the west of the river, in Gower registration district, and the then new parish of Sketty on the east of the river, in Swansea registration district. I strongly recommend that people who have previously been given information on the mailing list use the list archives to recover it, rather than asking the same question again. GLAMORGAN Family History Mailing List archives etc. are at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/GLAMORGAN.html This message ( above) appears on all individual list messages, though it is trimmed off from Digests, something that is inherent in the Rootsweb software.
