By Welsh Valley standards, it is not particularly near. ============= Dear Dianne, Dai Bevan raises an interesting point. Even though Llangiwg is less than 30 miles by road from Merthyr Tydfil, these two places were a world apart to the people who lived there. Llangiwg is in the Swansea Valley, while Merthyr Tydfil is in the Taff Valley. Between these two valleys there are five other South Wales valleys. >From Llangiwg in the west to Merthyr Tydfil in the east these are: the Dulais Valley, the Neath Valley, the Rhondda Fawr Valley, the Rhondda Fach Valley, and the Cynon Valley. So one could claim that Llangiwg is five valleys away from Merthyr. Kind regards, John (former resident of Llangiwg) -------------------- John Ball, Brecon, Mid-Wales, UK E-mail: john@jlb2011.co.uk Website: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/ Images of Wales: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/walespic/ Welsh Family History Archive: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/wales/ GENUKI Breconshire Maintainer: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/ Administrator - Powys (& BRE/MGY/RAD) RootsWeb mailing lists Webmaster - Breconshire Local & Family History Society
