Hi again Phil. When my great, great, grandfather died on the 6th;of june 1908, His entry in the Cathays Cemetary Burial register at Thornhill Cremetorium stated he was a "Ship's Pilot",Although I have no other knowledge of him being so? He was Llewellyn Humphreys BOWEN,born 30th;of November 1857, at 74 Bute Street Cardiff Docks. His father John BOWEN jr;[1830-1892]was many things in Cardiff Docks. Like a "Gridiron Master".A "Berthing Master", "Deputy Dockmaster,"and "Bute Dock Gateman". When John Died on the 2nd;of January 1892, he was listed as a "Pier Head Master" of Pier Head Buildings. Although that Building which still stands today, wasn't built until 1897. Llewellyn was also listed as a "Boatman"in one of the Census Returns,so he could have been that on the "Glamorgan Canal"Perhaps? Llewellyn's Brother-in-law was James Arthur CLARE,[1857-1930]who was listed as a Pilot,as was his son of the same name. The "Arthur"Part of his name came from his Mum,who was an ARTHUR. James sr;played Rugby for Wales, and had just the one "Cap"in 1882. Strange that,as he was born in London. Cheers Graham. From:- Graham WILLIAMS,of Canton,Cardiff. Glamorgan F.H.S;#551.
