    3. WESTERN MAIL FRIDAY DECEMBER 17. 1926. No. 342. CARBOLIC BY MISTAKE- Serious Condition Of A Cardiff Woman. Mrs. Mary ADAMS, aged 52, of East Cottage, East-street, Cardiff, is lying at the City Lodge in a serious condition as a result, it is believed, of taking carbolic acid in mistake for a cough mixture. The attention of Relieving-officer O'BRIEN was called to the case by Dr. Trevor EVANS at about eleven o'clock on Thursday morning and he immediately conveyed the woman to the City Lodge. Mrs. ADAMS was stated on Friday morning to be progressing favourably. LLANHILLETH MYSTERY. As already reported in the Western Mail, John BABER, of 57, Cavelin-street, Llanhilleth, has been missing from his home since December 8. On Thursday dragging operations were commenced at Penyfan Pond, Aberbeeg, by the members of the Aberbeeg Workers Club. After two hours unavailing search the work was abandoned until to-day (Friday). HIGH COURT ARREST. Cardiff Bench Fix Bail At £600. When Ewart Darwin ROBERTS (38), who was greeted in the High Court recently after giving evidence in a case arising out of mortages on houses at Ely, appeared at Cardiff Police-court on Thursday Mr. J. Lewis WALTERS (Messrs. PHOENIX and LEVINSON) appplied for a further remand for three weeks stating that the Director of Public Prosecutions had the case in hand, and had very extensive inquiries to make. ROBERTS is charged with feloniously obtaining from Abraham SHIBKO a cheque for the sum of £65 under a forged promissory note. Mr. Harold LLOYD, on behalf of the accused, said the case had already had a good deal of publicity, with the result that possibly' it would be difficult for defendant to get heavy bail. Whatever the nature of the charge against him, the fact remained that the proceedings in respect of the matter which gave rise to it been going on for two or three years. The Justices remanded ROBERTS until January 6 and agreed to accept bail, the prisoner himself in the sum of £200. and two sureties of £200 each. TREDEGAR GOLDEN WEDDING. Mr. and Mrs. William JONES, of 2, Ladysmith-terrace, Tredegar, celebrated their golden wedding on Thursday. Mr. JONES, who is 76 years of age, is the senior deacon of Zion Calvanistic Methodist Church, Tredegar. His wife is five years his junior. There are eight children, eighteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Both Mr. and Mrs. JONES are in good health. VICTIM OF ILL-HEALTH.-St. Nicholas Woman's Suicide At Cardiff. Remarking that her state of health had unhinged her mind, the Cardiff City Coroner (Dr. R. J. SMITH, J.P.) recorded a verdict of "Suicide whilst of unsound mind" at the inquest on Thursday on Alice Fanny ISON (42), of Duffryn House, St. Nicholas, who died on a seat in Victoria Park after taking poison. A note left by the woman addressed to her husband, Albert ISON, read:- " Dearest Bert.- I ask everyone to forgive me. I can't go on any longer without sleep. My head is funny to-day. Love.- Alice.
