Hi, Some time ago I started researching family connected to Maud Stowell b. Cardiff 4th December, 1913. I'm trying to help her remaining son - now nearly 70 - to find his mother's family. His parents married in London in 1934. I got amazing responses from many on this site for which I am very grateful. As a result of this, I found a descendant of one of her siblings. I sent him by snail mail an outline of Maud and how she was connected to him. I gave him 5 different ways to communicate with me: email, home address, skype, facebook and cell and home phone numbers. I also found his home phone number (and actually his address) on the net and as nearly one month had elapsed, with no reaction from the chap, I decided to phone him. He felt that my communication was instrusive and told me that he was terminating the conversation. I feel that he is a very polite person but thought possibly that I was some sort of scam. 1. Anyone got any suggestions if and how I can proceed with this? 2. If anyone, maybe in or from the Cardiff area, would like to reply to me, off list, and be prepared to approach him locally, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your support Regards Angie Elfassi Israel Searching: RAYKH-ZELIGMAN/RICHMAN, Stakliskes, Lithuania/Leeds COHEN, Sakiai, Lithuania/Leeds MAGIDOWITZ, Jurbarkas, Lithuania/Leeds KASSIMOFF, Rezekne, Latvia/Leeds
I might have read your post wrongly , but my interpretation of what you have written is that this person does not want to be contacted by you or anybody else in connection with his family history. I would therefore think it unreasonable and ill advised for any member of the list to approach this person in connection with the request posted ,as he has already stated he felt a phone call was intrusive. THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION. Any comments ..please talk to me off list. Yours Robert Alun Chick Penarth. -----Original Message----- From: Angie Elfassi <aelfassi51@yahoo.com> To: Glamorgan <GLAMORGAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, 5 Aug 2011 8:51 Subject: [GLA] Maud (Miriam) Stowell Hi, Some time ago I started researching family connected to Maud Stowell b. I'd take no as the answer and leave it. Not everyone is interested in family history or contact with unknown relatives. It is an intrusion on their lives and we should respect that. He may have decided you were way too pushy - I have waited months before getting replies to my letters and it is not unheard of for a year to go by before a reply is received, sometimes not even by the initial recipient - sometimes they will pass it on to another relative who is more interested. He may very well have thought you were a scam - there are a lot about these days. A phone call puts a person on the spot to make a decision there and then. A follow up letter in a few months time might have been better although, as someone else has suggested, a letter from the actual relative might have been better received. He may think you are after family money, land etc. If he changes his mind he knows how to contact you. Just my 2c worth. :) Regards Lyn In Oz.
not everyone is interested in family history though. Maybe an approch from the actual relative would have been received better, Gill ----- Original Message ----- From: "Angie Elfassi" <aelfassi51@yahoo.com> To: "Glamorgan" <GLAMORGAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 8:49 AM Subject: [GLA] Maud (Miriam) Stowell Hi, Some time ago I started researching family connected to Maud Stowell b.
