Forgive me if I'm duplicating -- I get the digest version each day, and it hasn't arrived. This is excellent for those of us who can't visit TNA to view microfilm. http://upfront.ngsgenealogy.org/2011/08/uk-digital-microfilm-online.html
Hello Billie Anything to do with the National Archives is a total waste of time. Unless your looking for a specific item or a minority interest such as the Spanish Civil War: British Volunteers Lists. They can't be bothered with the general publics needs. Hi Gareth, My tuppenceworth is that the records on the National Archives website have most definitely helped me to find out certain things about my family members, and filled in gaps I wouldn't have otherwise known about. It's really helped to put flesh on the bones as we say. It could also be said that the big online companies aren't interested in us, only in what they want and in their own pockets, but we still benefit from what they have made available online, and we dig in to their resources regularly. Kindest regards, Jon
Hi Billie and Gareth, I have never found that to be so. TNA are exceptionally helpful and a visit is a great experience as there are so very many documents to choose from. It sounds Gareth, as if you have had a bad experience which has turned you against them, but be reassured you and Billie, that they are a great outfit and are most interested in assisting if you have problems with any of their downloads. Do remember that we have a vast collection of material held there. It is the official archive for England, Wales and the central UK government, and contains over 1,000 years of British history. I have download wills and other documents and also downloaded the page for our village recently from the Domesday book.
